ERGO advice please

Thread Starter
A friend just gave me her gently used Ergo. I purchased the infant insert for it, thinking that would be what I needed for my son. We tried it tonight, and it was a bit awkward - I didn't like how the insert was just a loose piece, sort of jammed in there.

I can't seem to find good weight recommendations on the Ergo site, and since it's a hand-me-down, I don't have the original instructions. Can anyone tell me when I can start using the Ergo with my son? He's 10 weeks, about 15 pounds and 24 inches. When did you start using the Ergo?

Thanks!

The store i bought the heart-to-heart infant insert from said that it could be used with the ergo from about 0-4months. I started using it when my son was about 6-7weeks old and it was great because it propped him up high enough so that his head was well over the edge. My husband tried it just recently after our ds turned 4months and, voila, the insert is no longer needed as he is long enough and can splay his legs out. The ergo is supposed to be able to hold a child up to over 40lbs.

My baby is 8 weeks and I don't use the insert. I just froggy her in there (not splayed), sometimes I put a rolled up receiving blanket in the bottom for her feet, but she's otherwise fine.

I started using the Ergo when our little guy was 2 months old (when we bought it). We never used the insert. I tried using a blanket once or twice, but found he prefered to just sit in the carrier (generally with legs both in, or one up and the other down).

The Ergo, like all carriers, takes some work deciding exactly how you like to carry the baby and the height and everything. It doesn't take long to figure it out though. I love ours immensely! Don't give up!! Best of luck!
