Recommendations for an electric breastpump?

I realized that I will need to get an electric breastpump for when I have to return to work. I love my manual Lansinoh but it won't work for intense pumping (I find it super comfortable, but slow)
I would love to hear your experiences and recommendations - since it is a pretty big expense I'd like to make sure I do my research.
Thank you!

Oh, and can a double pump be used as a single? I'm planning to pump one breast why my LO is on the other one as he seems to get enough from 1 breast at a time. Thanks!

i love my medela pump in style advance, the backpack kind. its a double, and when you only want to pump one boob, they have a plug-y thing to cover up the part where the air comes out (horrible description sorry)

the backpack is an ok size, and you can fit lots of stuff into it. eventually i didnt need to lug around so much stuff (i had breast shields and bottles at multiple locations lol) so i took out the actual pump from the backpack (its velcro-ed in) and put it inside the small cooler carrier that it came with. it fit with the two tubes and adapter

I also work full-time, and contemplated buying a PIS. Right now, though, I rent a Medela Lactina, and love it. I bought a Medela Swing for home use (since I pump during the week, I tend to produce more than my LO can handle on the weekends, so I pump after she eats).

Like I said, the Lactina is a rental, but I used the PIS before and prefer the Lactina. It just seems more powerful to me, and since I don't have all that much time to pump at work, I want to be as efficient as possible. So if you don't mind renting, I'd go with the Lactina or another hospital-grade pump. But if you're definitely wanting to buy, the PIS is still a good choice.

And yes, with Lactina, you can pump one-sided if you want.

I have the Aameda Purely Yours, which has been working very well for me. I found it for about $50 cheaper than the Pump in Style, which is the other I was considering.

I used a Pump in Style and really liked it. Lansinoh makes an electric pump now.

the pump in style is pretty universal as far as single-user double-electric pumping fgoes. if you're sure you only plan to pump one breast at a time, you can save significant $ by going with the Medela Swing single-electric and still get the quality/technology of the regular Medela brand.

I really really love my Avent Duo. It's amazing. I get way more milk with it than I did the Symphony, PIS, or Lactina.

I also have a PIS Advance and love it. And like the others have said, you can use it as a single sided pump if you'd like to.

I have PIS and really liked it while I was working. Most other people at work also had PIS. It is a little bit pricey but seems like a pretty standard solid choice!

Not sure where you are, but craigslist where I am has loads of gently used PIS-- and you can replace the hoses and other parts and save a lot of $.
