Hi everyone..
I am so excited we just started "The story of the World vol 1"
Anyone else reading it too?

Yep. We are on chapter 15, I think. We started in the fall, but apparantly we took too much time off. Not sure if we will finish by next school year! My 6yo ds loves it and my 3yo dd enjoys listening and participating in the activities. I am personally getting a little bored with it, but can't wait for next year. I love love love that period of time...

Have fun!

SOTW is my favorite part of our curriculum this yr! I really love it. It works so well for us. We are finishing the very last chapter of vol. 2 next week, then we're skipping ahead to vol. 4. I'm all excited. My 6th grade son enjoys it & learns so much from it. Also, if you do a search of this forum you'll find lots of conversations about SOTW.

We are using it right now But we will be moving to SOTW 2 soon.

I'm excited to start it, but I'll probably wait until my youngest is old enough to participate. I figure when they are 5 & 8? Then they can learn it together. Two birds/one stone. Yuck, that is an awful saying!

LucyRev - I started vol 1 w/ my kids at ages 6 and 3. My oldest does everything and my youngest listens to the stories and participates as much as possible doing coloring pages and some of the projects. I just plan to include her more and more as she gets older. I figure all this will come around again for her when she is older since we will be doing each period of time twice before HS.

We're reading it, but we are so inconsistent! I think that if we had the activity book and I made a point to do like one activity a week it would help. I am LAAAAME about consistently doing science and social studies in any kind of logical order. We just jump around from one book to another whenever we feel like it.

So we've been reading SOTW all year and are still in Egypt We actually re-read through the parts we did at the beginning of the year because none of it really sunk in. I think the activity book would definitely help with retention here.

We love it, though there are a couple chapters that just don't seem relevant to us right now. I'm debating getting the activity book to go a little more in depth next year. We're really just reading it this year.

I highly recommend getting the activity book. We don't always do an activity, but both children do the coloring pages (sometimes while I read) and my son does the mapwork. It also has book suggestions that go along with the topic that week.

My son really enjoys it and I don't think he would like it as much if we didn't add the extra stories and activities into our schedule.
