Hit me with your best hemorrhoid remedies

Thread Starter
I'm 36.5ish weeks pg, and I have a hemorrhoid that I reallllly want to get rid of before baby day! I'm currently taking Hem-Relief, but I'm almost out and money is really tight, so I don't want to get another bottle if I don't absolutely have to...

Is there anything that I can do to help it go away that is fairly cheap, and very effective?

FWIW, I don't think my diet has effected the situation. I've had them with each pregnancy, regardless of circumstances. I've been very regular during this pg, with only a few episodes of constipation, if that, and I thought that I might be able to get away w/o one this time. It looks like I'm just predisposed for life though! I've been carrying extremely low for months though, so I'm guessing that hasn't helped.

How about twice-daily warm water/witch hazel soaks in a sitz bath?

There was another thread about this in one of the almost-due DDCs, I think, and there were a lot of good ideas...

Soaking a cotton pad or some folded toilet paper in witch hazel and then putting said item in your crack pressing up against the offender was good for relieving discomfort for me.

However, I have to warn you, as far as "getting rid of it before baby day," my labor process gave me the worst hemi's i ever had. The couple of birth photos showing the area are, um, shocking.

yeah I agree with both posters...

sitz baths are heaven

but birth brings them back even if they are gone before then. but don't feel bad about it, sitz are lovely after giving birth too. especially with the right herbs thrown in really bring relief to the area!

Argh...I so did not need to hear that!

But hey, it's still got to be good to have them gone before the pushing, right??

Well, this is about as anecdotal as it gets, but I had been having trouble with hemorroids since late in the second trimester, then two days after I started perineal massage (around 37 weeks), I woke up one morning and they were completely gone! The whole area has been a lot less sore and swollen, too. My theory is that the massage helped by increasing blood flow in that area. No idea if there really was a connection, but it's worth a try!

15 drops of geranium essential oil and 5 drops of cypress essential oil in 1 Tbsp of coconut oil. Apply a little bit whenever you use the rest room. This will get rid of them.

Cleaning with witch hazel after you have a BM helps a lot, too. Earth mama bottom balm is fabulous and lasts forever (nice for postpartum use, too), but then that's money. Another something helpful is a maternity belt (which helps to relieve pressure down there). Again, more money.

I do the same thing mrsa1993 does (though in a base of Avocado oil - which doesn't matter much). Works for me and helps alleviate a varicose vein I have in my upper thigh.

I've heard (but never tried) of using raw, grated potato on the hemorrhoid--put a small pile (no pun intended! ) on a gauze square and apply it. I've also heard of cutting a small chunk of raw potato (think french fry shape) and inserting it.

I swear by Golden Salve, but I have to be honest; I've never had too much trouble with hemorrhoids...never had them at all until after my last birth, and while it was annoying and painful, it wasn't extreme. But the Golden Salve is awesome...I use it on skid marks after birth, on tender stretch marks, on cuts and scrapes (anywhere you'd use neosporin), on baby's cord stump, on fever blisters (it's really awesome!) and even as a moisturizer on my face when I have acne flair-ups! It's just really good stuff and lasts forever. You can find it at many health food stores and save on shipping...

Golden Salve is the best stuff ever for all kinds of stuff. I had a long tear with DS1 that was too shallow (and too close to my clit, tmi) to sew and Golden Salve was the only thing that made it feel better, and helped it heal Really fast. I also highly recomend adding St. John's Wort or Arnica flowers to your sitz bath (awesome for swelling, bruising, muscle, pain, etc.) I have also heard, but not tried myself, that inserting a small, peeled, garlic clove overnight can drastically reduce the size of hemrhoids from the inside and offer big time pain relief.

Homeopathic witch hazel is the best remedy I've found.

Honey.

yep. Sounds crazy but pack some right up there when you're in the shower.

Brings a whole new meaning to 'honeybun'
