How do I stop the biting?

Our puppy (toy poodle mix) is about 9 months old now and won't stop play biting. He's come a long way in all his other obnoxious puppy behaviors but this one. As you are walking buy he'll jump up and bite your hands. It's not painful but it's very annoying. Also, if you are wearing socks, he'll sneak up on you and pull them off your feet and then take off at top speed.

Ive been watching a lot of the dog whisperer and trying his tecniques but they don't seem to be working and Im very consistent.

What am I doing wrong? How can I fix this?

The dog whisperer? Oh my, I wouldn't be following that advice!

How do you and the kids react when the puppy bites them? Sometimes the reaction keeps it going. Also, I'm not against games of tug-of-war in general but with this issue if you are playing them I'd stop for now.

How much exercise is your pup getting? What type? Have you done any training classes? How much training do you do on a daily basis? I've been there with a mouthy youngster, it took a lot to tire her out (mind and body) and that plus some structure was the only one to keep both of us sane.

I'm sick today, so not up to typing much

However some of my favorite information on teaching bite inhibition and general how to raise a puppy (or dog new to you) is in Ian Dunbars Before and After You Get Your Puppy.

Luckily, they are available as a free pdf

Before You Get Your Puppy

After You Get Your Puppy
