Using cloth wipes questions

My twins are 6 months old now and before, I had their changing station in my bathroom and would just wet the wipe in the sink as I was changing them. We moved across country and their changing station is in their room now, which means that I don't have a sink to wet the wipe in. I've tried keeping a stack of wipes by the kitchen and bathroom sink but my twin mommy brain doesn't remember to grab a wipe and wet it before I take them to their room to change them, and I only remember AFTER I've gotten their diaper off and then there's drama with trying to get a naked screaming baby up and back into the kitchen to wet a wipe... it's not worth it.

So, I've been using cloth wipes with a wipe solution spray for wet changes and disposable wipes for dirty changes. I use the disposable because I can't seem to get their bums clean with just the diaper spray and let's face it, I'm CHEAP and don't want to use a ton of spray for those changes.

Which leads me to my questions:

1) Does anyone have a favorite wipe spray solution recipe they'd like to share? I'm tired of paying $11 a bottle for it.

2) How would you solve the remembering to wet the wipe problem? Or what do you do when you use cloth wipes away from a sink?

It seems so simple but honestly, I don't have the mental capacity to see the obvious these days, lol!

Thanks so much!

Cloth Wipes

I keep all my cloth wipes, dry, in a stack on the changing table. I do not use a solution. I just keep plain water in a peri bottle in a basket on the changing table, along with the powder, etc. When I change a diaper, I just squirt some water on the wipe and clean the booty. I've been just using water for 1 year with no problems. I tried a few homemade solutions, but they just burned his booty.
I also found if I prewet the wipes and store in an old Huggies container, the get stinky. I like to keep things simple, I'm sure you do to with twins!

I actually do the prewet wipes. Don't have too much of a prob with them getting stinky.
I take a gallon size ziploc bag, put a squirt of her body wash in it with some hot water. Put in handful of wipes, get them nice and soaked, then squeeze out the excess water and store them in a plasitc wipes case on her changing table. Probably do this 1-2 times a month? My only complaint this way is that wipes are cold. My dd is 16 mo and she now expresses that she doesn't like the cold wipes

I use a cloth wipe warmer that I keep next to the changing table. I roll up the wipes and put them in the warmer usually once a day, then drizzle on some wipe solution that I mix up and just keep in an old milk jug. The solution I use is water, olive oil, and a little Burt's Bees Baby Wash. The wipes are nice and warm when I wipe DS's bum. It's wonderful.

This is the one I have:http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...t_adv_XSG10001

The warmer also came with a little "recipe book" a different wipe solutions.

When he was first born I did the same thing - tried to wet them at the sink every time, and it just got old quick. So now I keep a small Klean Kanteen with a sport top on the changing table full of water. Shake it onto the dry dipe, easy refill at the sink when it's empty, and I can just drop it into the diaper bag if I need to.

Open bowl of water on the changing table. Dunk and squeeze.

We bought one of those pump top thermos and keep warm water in it. Well, when we remember to refill it with warm water. It lasts a few days.

Just like Katie (1st reply) I use a peri bottle with water in it. It works beautifully. I can either wet the wipe down for a damp cloth or I can squirt the water right onto my son's tush if he's really dirty.

I liked this solution so well that I now use it for family cloth as well. I keep an old travel bottle with a squirt top next to the clean cloths.

I used a peri bottle filled with just water as well. It worked awesome. Now our changing table is in the bathroom, so I just wet in the faucet as needed. If we move again and have the changing table elsewhere I will go back to the peri bottle method.

My system is similar to Nicole730's - I boil a pot of water in the morning, use a cup of it for my tea, and put the rest in a pump coffee carafe thing that I found at the thrift store for under $5, and leave it by my changing station. The water stays warm all day.

Genius!! I didn't even think about getting a water bottle. DUH! I was thinking way too complicated, like putting a crockpot filled with water in the room to dip the wipes in to wet them. Oy. That's too much work. But the water bottle or thermos is perfect. I'm going to have to find a giant one though, lol!

Hi Cristeen! I love the idea of just being able to drop it in the diaper bag, that's great. I'm so tired of using disposable wipes. Before the babies were born I spent about 6 hours making a ton of wipes so I want to use them as much as possible. (Hope you guys are doing well!)

Thanks again everyone!

I have been trying to figure out the best method for us...we are brand new at CDing...as in started with our now 10 day old on Friday. I might go get a thermos because she does like the wipes warm.

For those who use a peri bottle, does it stay sealed enough to use it in your diaper bag without leaking? I do have a little wipes wet bag, so I could pre-wet some wipes before going out...but I am trying to figure out what is easiest.

For those who use a soap/body wash as wipes solution, do you make it very mild and find that it doesn't irritate baby's skin? Disposable wipes leave a soap residue, so I am assuming that using a little baby wash and water will be fine. I have some goats milk baby soap/shampoo that should be gentle enough to use. For a newborn though I would think water is good enough since her BM poops don't really stick to her skin.

In my diaper bag I have a little 3oz plastic bottle, either a mist/spray or a little flip top squirt. Just the kind you can pick up for cheap in the travel products aisle at Target. That works really well for us.

I have a mug warmer right on my changing station. So there is always a cup of hot water ready to dip my cloth in.

It's a Mr. Coffee mug warmer, nice and tiny and it was $10

I like all the ideas for keeping the water warm! I just put mine in an old huggies container. I use a little olive oil and tea tree oil in my water. A little vinegar when DS had a bad yeast rash, and I've never had problems with them getting stinky. When I go out, I put damp wipes in a wet bag. It's fine as long as they're not too wet.
