Vitamin w iron drops and yucky constipation

Miles (11 mos)was recommended to take vitamin drops with iron because he was shown to be slightly anemic (9.7 hemoglobin) after 3 days. His regular soft poo has turned to pebbles and DARK, DARK GREEN!

Has anyone dealt with this?

Yeah, my DD is sensitive to artificial iron (ferrous sulfate) and the same thing happens to her. I have to rely on natural iron sources and avoid things with ferrous sulfate in them, or else she gets dangerously constipated. Ferrous gluconate is an alternative that works a little better for us (Floradix and Schiff Children's Multivitamin Liquid). it still makes the poop black/green, but a little bit less hard.
