I'm expecting my first baby, and I've just started researching babywearing. I have read such great reviews on the Sleepy Wrap, and then I came across the Moby. They look so similar. Are the Moby and Sleepy Wrap basically the same? Do you prefer one over the other and why?

I owned a moby, looked at a sleepy... I seem to think maybe the sleepy was slightly thicker and less stretchy?? It's been a couple years, I could have it wrong. They are so fundamentally similar, though, I wouldn't split hairs over which is better. Personally I think they're both wicked expensive for what they actually are so if you want one or the other I'd go with whichever one you can find a good price on, ideally used...
I got my moby used for $20, good as new, and sold it for $20, good as new.
You can actually make one yourself fairly easily as I believe the material doesn't fray when cut, but if you don't have a serger it won't look quite as spiffy.

I think they're both very nice stretchy wraps, but the Sleepy Wrap is definitely stretchier than the Moby. I loved my Sleepy Wrap with my third baby for the way the fabric was so soft and boingy and the edges curled (it looked a little more finished than the Moby), but I found she outgrew it faster than the Moby because she was a very tall and heavy baby. So I was able to wear the Moby for longer when the Sleepy was just too stretchy and I had to tie it super-duper tight for support.
Either way, I think the upper limit for a stretchy wrap is about 20 pounds -- I really disagree with the marketing of these carriers that they're good for birth through 35 pounds, as I think most parents find they're not supportive enough once baby hits about 20 pounds.

I have a sleepy wrap in my collection and I still get good use out of it. DD is almost 10 months and a little over 20 lbs. I use a variety of carriers with her (a ring sling, a ssc, a woven wrap, the occasional beach towel) and the sleepy wrap is still the favorite for wearing her down to sleep.

Pretty sure they are 100% identical. I'd vote for the sleepy wrap though...only because that is the one that I had and I absolutely loved it. Washed it many times (never lost it's stretch or vibrant color or anything like that) and wore it for many months. I remember getting it in the mail when my DS was 3 months and I was like WHY OH WHY did I not get this sooner! The minute i put it on and put him in it, he fell asleep! It was soo cool! lol
