MDC is so great!

Yk, I just have to say that I have learned so much in my years at MDC. I can run my household so much more efficiently because of the skills and ideas I've picked up here. Isn't it nice to be able to beat the system sometimes, finding ways to eat and live better for cheaper? I never thought I'd be doing things the way we do, but I wouldn't want to do it any other way now! I'm even seeing these things more in my community, and because of that, we're able to barter more, and that is just so cool. Between foods that we raise/grow ourselves, and skills we have to offer, we are able to barter rabbit meat for raw goat's milk, fresh eggs for a new to us refrigerator, electrician/HVAC skills for plumbing, financial advice/meal planning help for childcare, etc..it's really amazing what happens when you have community--online and IRL.

I agree-we are in a bit of a financial slump for the moment, but with the skills I've gathered from my 2 years here at MDC and the advice I've gotten it really isn't so bad. My house is stockpiled, and we have just about whatever it is we want to eat, our bills are paid and things are generally fine.

Hear, hear! The skills and tips I've learned in my years here have made all the difference to our budgeting and well-being.

I have so much gratitude for the MDC members who generously take the time to write long, explain-y posts about everything from how to slash the grocery budget, to going no-shampoo, to making homemade diapers and so many other things. What a gift

I am SO HAPPY to see this thread! I've often wondered where to express my gratitude for all the help, advice and support offered here. The patience of everyone is amazing. The one thing I've been most grateful for is the fact that we are all at different stages, needing different input, and no one EVER tells someone to search the database. I find that very discouraging when my time online is often limited to library computers and I am told to figure out, and wade through, various places to find my information. If something is covered thoroughly elsewhere on MDC, a link is provided.

You mamas rock!

I didn't know where to put it either, really. I have probably learned more in the F&F forum, though. Things that I use in my every day life/running of the house/taking care of the kids.

I love it here too!

I come on everyday even if it is for a few minutes. I have learned SO much and it has helped me to be a better parent. I go through phases of which board I am on most and for now it is F&F. Now that I am on a "money" kick.

I absolutely LOVE that no one tells you to do a search but voluntarily offers the info. Another board that I have been on for forever is notorious for doing that (yuck).
