Orrin Azriel Noah was born today, in an unassisted water birth, at 10:37 am.
Contractions started keeping me awake at 3:30, I called DH to come home at just after 5, by 7 things were getting intense enough that I had some loud vocalisations and got into the birth pool. 8:30 I started giving wimpy little pushes at the peak of contractions, 9 or so I started pushing HARD and continued to do so until he was born.
He was posterior and it took easily the first hour to get him past my pubic bones. I tried a lot of different positions, guided entirely by what hurt less at the time, and the pool was fabulous for that (though did absolutely nothing for me in regards to pain relief). At some point I ended up doing my own suprapubic pressure. It felt like my pelvis was being torn in two and if I pushed just there with each contraction it didn't hurt. At some point I felt almost a "pop" and he slid down - finally- and was born soon afterward.
He was covered in vernix- as in, COVERED- there we globs of it floating in the water, even- and started breathing and pinking up immediately. He was pretty calm but had no interest in latching or opening his eyes for the first 40 minutes or so, but once he latched he stayed attached for more than an hour
Placenta was born full and intact about 10 minutes after he was (though I got a bit freaked when a few blood clots came out first, and I thought it was the placenta coming out in pieces!) and my blood loss has been very minimal, even less than with DD.
He's beautiful and perfect and marvelously healthy.
8 lbs, 2 oz, 20 inches long with a 14" head circumference.
He was born at 40+ 2. Funny because DD was born at 40+2, also on a Friday, with labour also starting at 3:30 am. Strange!
Labour dust to those still waiting!
link to DH's facebook album- it includes labour photos as well (and my messy house! I swear to God it was SPOTLESS the night before!)
