Eca-pants?

Does anyone use Eca-pants? DS is 5 months old and getting a bit big for his prefolds--I'm concerned that the snappi compresses his little belly too much anyway, and am looking for alternatives. If anyone's used Eca-pants or has other good ideas, I would love some advice. Everything I look at is pricey, so I want some ideas before I invest the $$$. Thanks!!!

Ecapants are WONDERFUL, and 5 months is the perfect time to get them--they're really great for the beginning-mobility stage when babies can't stand on their own yet (so pull-ups are harder, IMO), but there are lots of pees and usually a lot of catches.

My absolute favorite trainers at this point are the EC store favorite trainers, waterproof with snaps on the side, but I think those are better once baby can stand, because you can just pull them down while baby is standing.

The one thing I didn't like about ecapants is that they're pretty useless underneath pants. With DD I used them all the time in the summer--ecapants under a dress, with babylegs if it was cold. I will do the same if I ever have a boy, with a long t-shirt instead of a dress. But I never used them much in the winter, because she would basically have a bare bit of thigh between the ecapants and her babylegs, and I just didn't like that. Granted, she was in the sling so much that it probably wouldn't have mattered at all.

I wish ecapants had enough elastic in the waist to work as pull-ups in addition to the drop-down style--then they would be perfect!

I suggest you check out the EC forum on diaperswappers.com and find what you can get on sale. That way you can try lots of different styles without investing lots of money. That's what I did.

I think that was about the time we started using a piece of elastic with flannel sewn around it to hold the diaper on her, no more snappis. They catch on everything anyway once the baby starts moving. With a "diaper belt" (as we call it), you go coverless, just pull out the front flap to pee, put front flap back when done. I use it with longer prefolds, like blue edge DSQs or even the cheapie Gerber or Birdseye or whatever would work. I've not had any problems with pee leaks, and we were catching all the poops around that time. I also love this set up once baby is crawling because you can change while moving .

I have never used Ecapants but I second the prefold/belt combo. It may look a little primitive and loincloth style but the only thing easier (imo) is nakey butt.

I purchased 4 ecapants when dd was about 4 months old. I really enjoyed them but couldn't purchase enough of them due to the cost for them to really fit into any kind of system. As a pp mentioned they are pretty useless under pants so I could only use them if dd was in a dress or just a shirt. I wish that I had used pre-folds and a pre-fold belt instead of purchasing the eca pants. I started using the pre-fold belt when I had the eca pants and they would all be wet (in 1 day or less) and the pre-fold belt worked great and is cheap!
When dd was about 5 months I purchased sassy cloth waterproof trainers. They are a water proof pant made by a wahm and they are really really great. They are custom made so can take a while but are worth the wait. If I were to order more I wouldask her to make them not so thick (more trim w/ less padding) but all in all they are an awesome trainer and are a good price. I paid $6 a piece for mine bcs I ordered a doz. www.sassycloth.com

These are our favourites too. We've been using them since about 5 months, and have just ordered a few more. Now that our LO is walking they are awesome because we can snap them on while she stands, and then they can just be pulled up or down like underwear for pottying.

I've been nervous about doing anything that is waterproof with a plastic or PUL layer because of diaper rash. Also I'm concerned I won't know as soon as DS pees. The one time I used a diaper cover, DS was so steamy, I never went back. He's never had any rash to speak of, and I really want to protect his skin. Have the waterproof trainers caused any rashes or am I being overly cautious?
