British/American English Dif in Knit

I found a great DROPS pattern I want to use, but it's only available in British English. Is there a difference in knitting? I thought garter meant something different, but it describes it the same as it is in American E, so ?
Thanks!

I think they are pretty similar with a few differences, you should definately be able to use it. I'm from Canada and a lot of our patterns use the British terms. It's just things like cast off vs bind off. I know there are some conversion charts online... just not off the top of my head. I would google it. From my experience garter is the same in both (ie you knit every row)
