Our co-op asked me to look into putting together a computer programming class for next year. I have a degree in Computer Science and about 6 or 7 years work experience, but I've been (very happily) out of the field for just as long.
I'm not sure what would be relevent to colleges anymore. Does anyone know how programming is taught to homeschoolers? What's the standard language to teach?
In the research I've been doing, it seems that general programming theory is where I need to start, but I don't want to bore the kids to tears.
I was thinking of using this book: http://www.headfirstlabs.com/books/hfprog/
I've personally used other titles in this series to develop my web skills. The books are funny and engaging, but I almost feel like there might not be much to add by "teaching" from that book.
Any advice?
