Would you do hospital, home, someone else's home, or what under these circumstances? - Page 2

Well, it looks like I'll get my homebirth!!!!

I finally talked about it with our roommate and he said he didn't care as long as he didn't have to hear me holler lol.

His room is at the opposite end of the house, in the garage, so I doubt he could hear anything anyway. And our other roommate is hardly there.

Now I just have to work on making it a birth-friendly atmosphere.
I was in the shower this morning and I was like, "this is so GROSS..." mildew on the shower curtain and along the caulking of the tub.

I think I'm about to kick into serious nesting mode....my bf watched for a few minutes and then said, "you know, you have two months to clean everything before the baby comes, you don't have to finish today."

One other question...do you all have any tips or suggestions for my novice self on the whole water thing? I'm debating whetehr I really want to get a tub. I would have to put it in ds' room because there isn't room in our bedroom for a round tub. Unless we got something square/rectangular.

How bad is it really, to be in the bathtub? I was thinking that a combination of really hot shower and being in the tub on my hands and knees, with a wet towel over my shoulders to keep warm (although last time I got really hot), might work. Anybody done something like this? I'm only 5'1" if that makes a difference.

My plan was to do a water birth at home. We have a garden style tub, which is bit deeper than a standard, so I opted for using that after doing some research.
(If I had gone with a "birthing tub" I wouldn't have splurged for an actual birthing tub - I would have just purchased a deep kiddie pool from Target as that is what the local birthing center does...if you go that route, you do want to look at how you will keep the water warm...)

In the long run, I wasn't progressing in the tub, so I ended up giving birth in bed. HOWEVER, I spent a LOT of time laboring in the tub - it was great for helping me cope through contractions. If I have another, I would probably try for a birth in the tub again.

If you can lie comfortably in the tub and be mostly submerged, it's a good size for birthing. You also want to be able to sit up somewhat comfortably as well. If not, consider getting some kind of tub/pool.
