After a typical night (feeding every 2 hrs or so) my DD had a very rough morning. (2.5 wks old) She nursed nonstop (not exagerrating) for four hours. I had maybe 30 minutes time in there to go to the bathroom, change her diaper and get some water. Every time I took her off the breast because her suckling slowed down, she would scream bloody murder. Finally, after my nipples started hurting too bad and I got way too frustrated, I gave her a bottle of expressed BM (I go to class and the pumped milk is for DH to feed her - only a couple times a week, she is definitely not habituated to the bottle). She drank .5 oz and promptly went to sleep. What is wrong? Am I not producing enough? After I took her off the breast, I can still hand express a little so I know its still coming out although I don't know how much, I don't know how I can possibly still be making milk after 4 hrs of nonstop nursing. I do have mastitis on the one side and she gets a little fussier when she feeds from that side but she will still nurse from that side. Is this normal for a growth spurt? I've heard of cluster feeding but this seems extreme to me. Any advice is appreciated.
ETA: Her diaper output has not changed any since I got the mastitis despite me running a very high fever and she was gaining really well as of her 2 wk appt last Monday although I am finding it hard to pump as much since I got the mastitis (only 1 oz in 10 min as compared to 2-3).
