I'm I seeing two faces here?

I had an ultrasound last week at 19 weeks, 3 days gestation. I looked back at the pictures this morning and believe it looks like I'm seeing two faces in this picture. Pretty sure there's just one baby. What could have caused this?

It's just an illusion. It's often really difficult to get a sense of what some things are in an ultrasound "still shot." If the image was in real-time, that object in the background would be much more identifiable.

But if you really look at it, you can see that the second "face" doesn't even look like it's at the same stage of development as the very obvious face in the foreground. The imaginary face is much more developed. Our brains are hard-wired to pick out faces, which is why we see faces in clouds, the knots of trees, and grilled cheese sandwiches on Ebay.

That "face" in the background is probably a limb that's bent in an awkward way, or a section of the uterine wall, or part of the placenta.

That *is* weird, but I agree - we're programmed to look for faces, so it's probably just some weird thing on the placenta or something.

Very interesting shot, though. But I am sure if there were two faces the tech would have called the doc immediately.

I think what you are seeing as a face (about center of the pic, on the right side) actually looks like a shoulder to me. The dark shadow in the top right of the pic looks like the back of a head to me. And it looks like an ear slightly to the right of the baby on the left's eye. Almost like one baby was facing anterior, and one posterior.

When I had my 3d/4d with #4, I saw many views where the images bounced off each other and there were reflections and such. It's just a weird technology IMO, and I wouldn't be concerned at all.

I wasn't feeling concerned. I was emailing the pictures to a friend and noticed how weird that picture in particular looked. Guess it's just crazy technology.
