anyone use pockets as all in ones?

i really see some cute pocket diapers on etsy but dont want to use them as pockets (you know, changing out the inserts, but leaving the diaper)

i use mainly prefolds, and i have two AIOs (for going out)

is it reasonable to use the pockets as AIOs (meaning, using the pocket only once?)

thanks

edit: i meant using the whole diaper not the pocket only once. wrong wording

I've never heard of anyone re-using a pocket - that's really interesting. The only thing like that I've heard of is an AI2 (LOVE those). But yes, my pockets go in the pail after a pee.

pockets are used only once, they are like an AIO that is customizable. once it's peed in, it's dirty.

Pockets should only be used once really because the soaker goes INSIDE the diaper, like an AIO that comes apart. If is peed on, the layer between baby's bum and soaker gets wet too so it should go in the pail. If you prestuff all of your pockets as soon as they come out of the laundry, then it's just like using AIO's.

I haven't used pockets yet but the difference between pockets and AIOs from what I understand is that because the inserts are laundered separately, the diapers dry quicker. Also, I think they are more absorbent, or they can be, with the right inserts.

But once they are soiled, the whole thing has to be washed.

oooh...i was under the impression that you change out the soaker if it is only pee but keep the outer diaper, but change the whole diaper if it is poop ... ? ...

on another forum, the majority of pocket users did this ... which is why i didnt want to use pockets.

You do that with fitteds or prefolds and covers, and with all-in twos with snap-in soakers, but I've never heard of anyone doing it with a pocket.

wow the things you learn! lol

i seriously thought and was told that that is what pockets are. we have been doing prefolds this whole time so i know about that ... and i just bought the AIOs last week and they are obvious how to use ... i feel so silly now! l

well thanks for the clarification!

cut out the inside and just use it as a cover. (not a pocket lover here)

You definitely only take the insert out to wash + you wash the cover at the same time. I think what you saw is an AI2 (All in Two). Where you snap in a booster onto a cover. These are great and you dont have to wash the cover as often. But if you want to use it as an AIO then I wouldnt bother, I would just buy AIO's. Because AI@ tend to be more expensive for the cover + booster because the boosters alone are quite economical so the cost evens out. Plus if you're gonna buy an AI2 you may as well get as much use out of it as possible.

I agree; that makes the most sense to me. A12s are okay but not my fave. I really hate actual AIOs, though, with the sewn-in soakers. They are so much harder to get really clean.

We have 36 bg 3.0s and 40 bg 2.0s (Ds1's). I've *never* used them more than once. Ever. Their single-use things - when their peed or pooped in, you pullt he insert out and drop both in the diaper pail. Anything else would be gross...

As others have said, pockets are meant to be used once, then washed. I suppose in an 'emergency' situation they could be reused before washing, but not usually. There are diapers where you remove the insert and reuse the outer part multiple times, but they are not pocket diapers.

yup liek the others said pockets are a use once and wash diaper. There liked because one can customize the inner assorbancy and it all comes apart before washing for a better cleaning. Personally I hate them though.

Diaperswappers is running a poll about this right now:

http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/...d.php?t=915204

95% of respondents say they have never restuffed a dirty pocket. A few people said yes but it looks like those were mostly one-time emergencies.
