Newbie - Need advice abt homeschooling in NC

Can any tell me more about the state requirements please. My kids are coming from a public magnetic school in FL.
Is there a test they have to take yearly? Any help would be great!

Welcome to NC!!! What part of the state are you in?

NC has pretty easy requirements...you can go to www.hslda.org to read the specific legal-ees if you want

All you really have to have is:

paperwork sent to the Dept of Nonpublic Education starting the year your child turns 7
vax or exemption records, kept on hand at your home
attendence records, kept at your home (showing at least 180 days of school a year)
yearly testing starting at age 7...that can be either the CAT, the Iowa Basic or the Woodcock-Johnson

I'd also suggest checking around your area for co-ops or support groups. Those local moms can really help hook you up with all of the resources in your neighborhood!

And the PASS test, which is untimed and given by the parent is okay to use as well.

They'll accept any nationally standardized achievement test. We went with the CAT because that's what the local schools use but we test only to satisfy the state requirements, not really for keeping track of progress. And all you have to do is keep the results on file..no notification required.

NC really is a great place to homeschool!
