water broke...i can't sleep! update-Kaya Raine is here-VBAC 45 hrs after PROM!!!!!

Sorry it took so long to get back here with our update. Kaya Raine was finally born Monday night 2/1 at 10:08pm. I got my VBAC 45 HOURS AFTER MY WATER BROKE!!! LOL.

Quick version: OB let us do breast pump, walking, squats until 6am Monday (29 hours after water broke) But labor still just wasn't strong enough that far past the rupture so I did go with some Pit. It was long, rough but amazing & wonderful all at the same time. I almost made it through the couple of bumps of pit without an epidural but in the end, I am convinced the epidural ended up allowing me to relax enough to surrender & open up the rest of the way because of how exhausted I was after no sleep for 2 nights.

I think I am partially still in shock...lol. around 1am, DD1 woke up, came into our room & just as I lifted my head up to talk to her, i felt the warmth/wetness. Been having mild contractions for a little over an hour & just had a loose BM (sorry! tmi). I thought I might have seen a dark spot on tp earlier but i also had an EPO capsule inside me so im not sure if it was just that or blood tinged mucus.

I wish i could fall back to sleep but DH & I are both wide awake. Gonna watch some TV in bed for now...DD is back to sleep between us in our bed...

Yey!! congratulations I wouldn't be able to sleep either, even though conserving your energy is probably the wise thing to do, but it's just too exciting!! Easy labour vibes to you....

never was able to fall to sleep...aggghhhhh. contractions got a little patterned but then tapered off. have had a few this am but nothing that stopped me in my tracks. we are taking our time getting out of the house & heading to my mom's which is close to our hospital. (an hour drive)

am having a hard time deciding what to do next though...my mom is an L&D nurse where I deliver & my OB is great-love her. They are both saying they would like me to head to the hospital sooner than later to keep an eye on baby's heartbeat & my temp. I just took my temp & it's 96.4...we can keep checking that at my Mom's but of course I am debating on when to go to the hospital so we can check the baby's heart rate???? OB is saying she will let me walk around all day/all night as long as my temp is normal & baby is tracing fine...and the nurses are all awesome-have known them for 20 years. I don't dread the hospital at all but my doula is urging me to just hang at my Mom's, eat, rest, walk there...not head over to the hospital until labor is established.

my mom doesn't have any gear at home for checking heart beat...just not sure what to do...when to head in...it will be 12 hours since water broke by the time we get there...hmmmmm??????

I'd say do whatever feels right to you. Perhaps you can do in to check on baby for a bit, and jsut remember that you can check yourself out if you want to, and come back later when labor is more established. Either way, good luck, and can't wait to hear about your upcoming birth!

Maybe try some labor induction activities... nipple stimulation, sex, etc. ?

And as far as heading to the hospital... Do you have a feeling about it? Could you go just to get heart rate checked and then head back home?

Is sex suggested with broken waters?

No, I think sex is off limits after your water has broken. That's what I've been told anyway.

Ah, right... I am not a medical professional. But maybe you could ask yours what kinds of things you can do? I would think you could still do anything that does not include penetration...

NOTHING in the vagina after water is broken, not even a vaginal exam until you are for sure in labor. Because can push bacteria that could be hanging around outside of the cervix INTO the cervix; risks infection.

Stephanie, I hope you are just doing what feels right! To most, I would advise staying home as long as possible, but your situation is unique in that it seems the doctor and nurses know you well and will hopefully trust and listen to what you want.

OOOO, how exciting!! Another babe on the way! Listen to your body, your intuition. It can't hurt to just check on the babe's heart rate and then head back to the hospital can it?? That way you can have the peace of mind and rest at home?

!!!! So happy for you!!!!! Hope all went well and will look forward to hearing more soon. I'm in the "club" that says to go in and get checked...if you hang out at the hospital or the house, do whatever works, but if you know that they won't intervene (make you lay down, etc.) at the hospital, it seems like it would be alright to be there so you're ready to rock when the time comes....

I bet you are right! Congrats!

My first labor caused me to miss two nights of sleep, and by the end I was SO exhausted, and things went downhill from there. I'm glad you made it through and are now feeling good.
