Have you tried soaking it first?

i was just gonna say that! since i started soaking my brown rice, my kids dont complain anymore. i think they think its white rice.

i was soaking in raw ACV but now that i make my own cultured dairy stuff i use whey. i love the results, it ends up tasting a hundred times better.

BTW, dont cook in the soaking liquid! dump it (no need to rinse the rice) and cook in fresh water, or even better, homemade bone broth!

How exactly do you soak it?

I think basmati rice is supposed to be pretty healthy.

I don't like brown rice or whole wheat pasta for that matter either.

My acupuncturist suggested that jasmine rice would be better for me than brown rice. Not sure if others would consider it healthy but it is not a frequent thing.

There are a lot of variations on the pasta theme, I've seen the whole wheat with veggie (maybe that will trick your palate), artichoke, or even spelt! If you're really not into pasta, what about whipping up some polenta, chilling it, then slicing it and browning it in EVOO or something equally tasty?

in a mason jar. i put int he rice, add enough water to cover it plus an extra inch or so, our in some whey, put the lid on, shake it, and then replace the lid with a coffee filter help with a rubber band. i do this in the morning and then i cook it for dinner.

just a heads up...soaked brown rice cooks faster than you might be used to with unsoaked rice. it takes maybe 20 mins as opposed to 45+.

oh, and i usually add butter or olive oil to the cooking water, but i salt it after its cooked, if at all.

Why not try jasmine brown rice if you can find? It is absolutely delicious, so much better than the regular brown rice!

I've been using brown basmati for years but recently I switched to brown jasmine rice and my DH and DS are thrilled with it

And I always soak my rice overnight with raw apple cider vinegar but I rinse it just before cooking it on very low heat in my small Le Creuset pot.

are y'all soaking it in water with a little ACV added or are you soaking it in pure ACV?

In water with a little ACV. Usually for 1 cup of rice I'd use one teaspoon of ACV (I should probably use more but the one I buy - organic raw - is very expensive!).

Or you could use lemon juice instead, whey or yogurt. Since I cannot find raw dairy here in the big city I prefer to skip them alltogether.

Maybe three times a week! But I like to use different kinds for variety (Basmati, Jasmine, short-grain and recently red and black rice) and I cook a number of dishes which go nicely with rice, e.g. Chinese stir-fried beef strips with veggies, chickpea curries, lentils, Mexican chili with kidney beans.

I also stock a number of alternative grains such as quinoa, millet, amaranth and buckwheat but we do not enjoy them as much as rice

A brown jasmine rice cooked like a pilaf, so it's sauteed in some fat first, and then some interesting flavors are added (garlic + rosemary/thyme maybe) is really yummy. The sauteeing brings out a nutty flavor and the texture is a lot better. I've done it with soaked and unsoaked rice, it's easier with unsoaked but soaking makes it more nutritious and it does still work, just takes a bit longer during the sauteeing step.

Here's a new/old way to soak brown rice that doesn't require anything but rice and water. It's highly effective at breaking the phytic acid down so that we can absorb more of the nutrients from the rice.

Brown jasmine rice baked in the oven is the best. My family didn't like brown rice either until I started making it in the oven.

I would soak it first though.

I believe so, they claim it is more nutritious and healthier to eat.

Brown rice is the only kind of rice we have/eat (at least at home). We have rice at least 1x a week, if not 2 or 3x. I make a lot of stir fries, and otherwise just have long grain rice on the side (or made into mexican rice) occasionally too.

I highly recommend finding a store with a good bulk selection and buy a single serving of each brown rice and have yourself a taste comparison. I thought I hated brown rice until I did that, but in fact both DH and I prefer it to white now.
