Is Brown Rice the Only Healthy Rice? - Page 2

post #21 of 26
I finally found at my local grocery store (Fiesta) they started selling brown rice for real cheap, right next to the really cheap white rice. my family is fine with it so that's what we use, usually at least 3 times a week! I wonder if the off brand cheap stuff is really poor quality or something?
will definitely try the soaking trick, even for the cook time benefit.
ACV is apple cider vinegar, right?

Acv?

ACV = apple cider vinegar.

I cook my brown rice in homemade chicken stock and it is SO good. DH used to complain about using brown rice so I did a complicated half-white half-brown thing, but that got too tricky once I started soaking the rice. Now I soak it all day, cook it in chicken stock and he likes it.

Apple Cider Vinegar!! Thank you.

We like our brown rice just fine but if soaking is better (and decreases cooking time) I'll try it.

If I recall my Weston A Price, soaking it in a slightly acidic medium gets rid of the phytic acid, which is something that blocks absorption of nutrients. And yeah, it really decreases cooking time - mine cooks in the same amount of time as white rice now, which is a vast improvement as I can never remember to put it on early.

Have you tried Lundberg's short-grain brown rice? We love it. DH is not into whole grains, and he likes it as much as Jasmine rice (which is our house fave).
