book suggestions for adopting a rescue dog? * & general new owner book, ie Monks

We have an application in for a 9 month old corgi/boxer
Though we may not get this little dog (i really hope we do!) we will get a dog eventually, so I thought I'd go ahead and start reading on the specifics of integrating a rescue dog into our home.
Does anyone have any book suggestions, links, etc.?

I like Successful Dog Adoptions by Sue Sternberg for helping to choose a dog to adopt. As far as once you've adopted for training, etc. there are many good ones. I think anything by Brian Kilcommons/Sarah Wilson is good, my favourites being Good Owners, Great Dogs, and My Smart Puppy. Metrodog (same authors) is very helpful if you live in a city and want tips for integrating your dog into that type of lifestyle. Also anything by Suzanne Clothier (more of a psychology/behaviour side, but really helps to understand how dogs think).

The book I used was Jelly Bean versus Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. I found it very helpful especially helping me choose a safe dog for my then toddler.

thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to look for them in the library.

I used the Monks of New Skete book ages ago, and see that there is a new updated version.

Is this a good general book to start off with? I liked the one I had.

Personally I do not like the monks....a lot of outdated and unscientific ideas based on dominance theory. Suzanne Clothier has already been mentioned, she has a bunch of articles available on her website (flyingdogpress.com) as well. I also really like patricia mcconnell and karen pryor.

Ian Dunabar has his book Before and After You Get Your Puppy available as a free pdf....it is geared towards pups but has a lot of great info in it for older dogs as well.
