LO is miserable from teething & in need of relief!

My 7 mo. dd got her first tooth last week. She's been pretty miserable and is getting worse.
She's not sleeping very well, is waking constantly and is napping less and for shorter periods of time. She has become very fussy around nursing and yet at various times throughout the day and night wants to nurse to sleep.

I read through past threads to see what else I might offer her for relief. Hylands teething tabs don't seem to be helping anymore and I am getting so desperate that I might need to try an over the counter relief aid. She just seems so miserable. Please let me know what worked for your lo. ANY advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Clove oil worked well for my ds, and iced teethers, frozen breastmilk pops when they don't want to nurse, and nursing them when they do...but even my super sound sleeper had really restless nights while teething, usually spiked a fever of about 100 and pulled at his ears like mad.

The clove oil helped ease the pain a bit. We usually also used a bit of liquid baby aspirin to lower the fever as well.

The good news is it usually only lasts about a week or so.

I noticed a big difference with my DD after I got her an amber teething necklace. Although, on the really bad nights we do resort to Mortin or Tylenol.

DD got to to a point where I broke down and gave her Tylenol. Quick relief! Now I figure I'd rather give her OTC stuff when she seems really in pain rather than have her suffer b/c I hate giving her meds.

When Hylands didn't work, we went to Tylenol. It's seemed gentler to give her the pain relife then be miserable and up all night because she couldn't sleep.

Motrin/ibuprofen provides better pain relief than tylenol but if there's a low grade fever involved, tylenol would be the better choice.

ds, who never cries, cried for 4 straight hours yesterday due to teething! hylands didn't work, a frozen carrot didn't help, and he wouldn't nurse. i finally found some motrin we have in the house and gave it to him. he stopped crying within 10 minutes and was totally happy! i am not big on medicine at all and never take it myself, but i also don't want my kids to suffer in pain.

I'm very anti-meds myself, but I've given my little guy three doses of the dye- and flavor-free Advil over the weekend for his teething pain and high fever and it's helped him tremendously. Today we are back to Hylands as his symptoms have decreased.

Once my girls have started eating wheat, we give quite a bit of frozen bagels for teething pain. It works great for us, beacuse it offer a distration, the cold hepls numbing as well as the biting opportunities.

DH found this too for DD2. Yeah it is plastic, but she loves it!

We've been using these homeopathic teething drops. They do seem to help.

I hear you - my DD is 7 months old and her 4th tooth just popped through! I occasionally use Baby Orajel or Tylenol if it gets really bad. She seems to like sucking on a frozen wet washcloth. I tried the plastic teethers in the fridge, but she wasn't that interested.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice! I too will only take "meds" as a last resort and after I tried all the natural routes. I feel even more opposed to giving them to my lo. Having said that I finally gave her the dye/flavor free Ibuprofen and what a different baby! She seemed so much better today with very little fussiness

I have some teething oil from Punkin Butt that I like a lot, I just rub in on the gums. Seems to soothe him. I also use Hylands teethign tabs, and motrin/tylenol as needed. We've got some teeth coming in, too. Today's the first day he's even run a fever. Poor baby.

I just ordered some amber stuff to see if that works for us (necklace for babe, bracelet for my mom, nursing necklace for me and more!)
