He was night nursing a lot for a long time so I never worried about his milk intake but in the last month he has started STTN, and only nursing once in the early morning, both sides, before we get up. Then he will nurse on one side to go down for a morning nap, then the other side for an afternoon nap, then sometimes an evening nurse, but often not again until bedtime, and often only on one side then before he conks out. He is not asking for it anymore, though he never refuses if I offer and I guess I am only offering for naps and sleep. Eek! That is not enough, is it? I mean if you count it all up he's nursing 4-5 times a day, but not from both breasts, and depending on how tired he is, he sometimes only nurses 5-10 minutes before he's asleep.
He gets solids three times a day and water with meals. Sometimes he has a snack in the afternoon. He eats well, but he is, and always has been, a skinny little guy. He just learned to walk, so I am sure he's only going to slim down more. His brothers all weaned at 18 mos or earlier, but I was hoping to go until 2 with him. But eek, my milk supply! I don't notice gulping or let down, and I don't get "full" like I used to when he skipped feedings. I mean, there is definitely milk there, but I don't know how much he's really taking in.
I am thinking to offer the other side when he wakes up, and maybe make sure he nurses before dinner, and a full nursing at bedtime. Do you think that is enough? He is on no other milks besides mama milk.

More nursing never helps him gain weight, though. I feed him a very nutrient dense diet, meat, eggs, veggies, and fruit. We just started whole milk yogurt and cheese and he loves it. We'll see if that helps him put on some weight. And I will keep nursing him 4 times a day or more and try not to stress about it!
