mclisa - do you take Clomid? How long have you used it?

80'smum - progesterone cream is available over-the-counter, usually marketed to alleviate menopause symptoms. I think the only way to know if you need it is through a blood test, or several normal cycles with very short LP's.

I can't really be running to the Dr. all the time to be monitored. The one I see is in the area only once a month, so I can't have an U/S or anything to alleviate my fears. I hope I'm worrying for nothing.
Mollie, have you thought about asking your doctor about using progesterone as well as the clomid, or are you already? When my midwife and I discussed clomid, she recommended the progesterone as well to deal with LP issues.

As far as thinning your lining goes, how has AF been on the clomid? If you're still having your "usual" flow (several days of reasonable flow needing several pads a day, or 2-2.5ish oz total in your divacup over the course of AF, that's a decent indication of a normal lining.

Hang in there...

A blood test 7dpo can tell you whether you need help with progesterone, and you can be tipped off to that fact by having a short (< 10 days) luteal phase for several months of charting.

Most doctors will prescribe a progesterone supplement (usually a gel or suppository to be used vaginally, though some will prescribe it orally) rather than NPC (natural progesterone cream) because the prescription doses are far more effective at actually changing your progesterone levels. Some women on MDC have good results with NPC, but others don't really see much of a difference.

If you're worried about progesterone levels, definitely follow up with your doctor, because as you said, you're in your late 30s, and you don't really want to waste time debugging your system, IYKWIM

My Dr. never mentioned it. I showed him my charts & my LP's, and specifically asked him if they were too short, and he said they were fine. I have prog. cream here, but I've read that it's not as effective as suppositories.

The first month I took Clomid, I had the worst period ever. Last month when I took it, it was a little better, but still pretty heavy for only a couple of days. It's gotten lighter as the months go on, so I'm worried about that.

Mamalove- Of course this is anecdotal, and I was 27 when I got pregnant with my son, but I have very short LPs and didn't have any trouble getting pregnant. I was worried that I might have a progesterone issue because I spot a lot before AF and then my LP ranges from 8-11 days, but it wasn't an issue at all. My LPs seem to be just as short as ever (I haven't charted much recently, but the cycles I've charted had a short LP again), but I'm hoping that it won't impact me this time either. Time will tell, I suppose.

Also, one of my good friends took clomid and she didn't need to do progesterone. She got pregnant really fast on the clomid and had a successful pregnancy.

Qbear'smama - So sorry you missed your appointment. I agree that 5 weeks seems ridiculous for paperwork! I hope you get your BFP soon!

mommytoallh - I guess it's "Call to Action Day" for you & DH. Have fun!

Us- Hey everyone! I'll try to do a proper intro now. I am a WOHM (though I telecommute, so I am at home when I'm working) and my son stays with a sitter during the day. He is 21 months old. My husband is a teacher and I work in the research industry.

I had an IUD after DS was born, and I just had it removed on Friday, which also ended up being the first day of my cycle. So we'll be moving into fertile territory soon!

Welcome, Tulpen88 & rachwms!! I hope your stay here is short but fun!

Thanks everyone for your commisseration about the missed appointment! Yes, it is ridiculous that they need so much time for admin stuff before my surgery, but I find that kind of thing is common in the Canadian system, it's free, but you pay in wait times. I mean, May was the soonest surgery date my Dr. had, for goodness sakes!!

mommytoallh, good luck with the BDing!!

As for the progesterone question, I used the cream a few cycles when I was temping, but now that I am not sure when I O, I don't really want to use it as it could prevent O. I never got tested for progesterone deficiency, I just had pre-AF spotting I never had before TTC, so I thought it could help. I didn't notice a great change in my LP, but then again I only used it a few cycles, from O to AF.

Thanks for the confidence boost! I hope I'm worrying for nothing. Maybe everything is fine. Guess time will tell.

Hi ladies! I'd like to join this thread, if I may. February will be the 3rd month DH and I have been actively TTC #2 (longer for casual trying). I am 32 and am still nursing DS (25 months old).

I was feeling really hopeful that I conceived this past cycle. We timed it as right as I could figure (based on CF and not temperatures, though-- I hadn't been able to get consistent temp. readings due to DS' early morning bed-sharing shenanigans so I just gave up... though I may have to try again this month.)

My postpartum periods have been pretty irregular, but I've been fairly confident in knowing when ovulation occurs (due to CF and OPKs).
It's now been 15-18 days post-O (as far as I can figure.) AF still hasn't arrived, but I took a HPT this morning and it was negative.

Saturday is our 2-year wedding anniversary and I really wanted to have a BFP as a gift to DH. I will definitely take another test if AF hasn't arrived by Sat. (though that's probably wishful thinking...)

I'm sure it's been said often in this tribe, but it was so easy to conceive #1 when I was 29 and carefree!

Good luck to us all!

to all the new ladies again!

I took clomid for my first and had no complications. Trying for the third I had a lot of problems with it. It was giving my migraines and not making me O and I was up to 250mg. So we moved to injections, which was way easier IMHO.

Anyway, yup the BDing has begun! I have never had regular cycles before. Last month was a shocking 29 day cycle, and this month I am getting signs I am gearing up to O on time as well. I feel so excited about this.

And 3 times I have gotten pregnant when our friend Dave has been visiting from England. I just got the call this morning that he is coming on a last minuted holiday this Saturday to Friday! I should be Oing while he is here! If that isn't a sign I don't know what is!!! Everyone jokes with me and says it's got to be the English accent. I've asked Dave to send over some English porn . . . maybe that would do the trick! J/K!!!

Hi to all the new ladies!

Took my last clomid today...now just waiting to catch that positive OPK and IUI and then more waiting. Every month with the clomid I feel a little worse. First it was just being boiling hot all the time, then came the mood swings and now I'm getting headaches. I'm also trying to reduce my caffeine intake so that may be contributing to the headache. I'm so tired, I've had to start napping when DD does.

Well, this will be all worth it when it works this month, right? Right.

Thank you everyone for your FABULOUS replies I have a good luteal phase, and have no symptoms of anything being wrong! I already had a full check up before I started ttc, and my ob informed me everything was fine....
I just think I make up things in my head!!! I probably need to stop looking up things in google! LOL!!
I am on 5 dpo, and going to get a nice little surprise for hubby at victorias secret in anticipation of alot of bd'ing in a few days......... he'll be happy!!!
Hello Everyone! I'm back! Well, my DH and I have had a wonderful year with our first little guy and are hankering to make another (well we want a girl this time, but I'll be happy with another boy too). So could I please be added to the list, since we'll be starting this month February to make our newest little bun. I certainly hope that my stay is short and sweet. Thanks!
Bess - wow, we're almost TTC #2 buddies. My DD was born in Nov 07 and I'm 32 also. DD was weaned around 18 months, so I'm not nursing, but I do emphathize with you about finding temping frustrating since DD often wakes up early and comes into our bed. I never know whether to temp then or to try to go back to sleep until my regular wake up time (of course if I decide to go back to sleep that's usually when she is the most chatty.)

Good luck with the testing and hope you have a nice surprise for DH!

karylina, do you mean you got a BFP? If so, congrats!!!

I started a new thread about this terrible nausea I have had all week, feel free to read & give opinions. Ugh, it's awful, but I don't see how I could be pregnant, I'm maybe 6DPO at the most, if you recall DH went away Monday and we BDd Sunday, so even if I got pregnant then, I would not have symptoms yet! I am thinking it's the maca I've been taking...we'll see, I'll POAS later just to be sure...

Welcome, kJad29! Stitiches, ITA, it WILL all be worth it, but in the meantime, it sounds terrible!

80'smum, get your groove on!!

Bess, any news??
