Transition to crib going poorly, need suggestions

Our little one's been sleeping on her own for months - on a king sized mattress. She would wake a handful of times to nurse in the night and for the most part go right back down. Since she's become highly mobile, the mattress is significantly unsafe, so we moved her to her crib. The crib is a foot or two from the mattress in the same room. She naps very nicely in the crib, but nighttime isn't going well. She will scream and arch her back when we go to put her in. In the middle of the night as I try to rock her back to sleep she will scream in an out of control manner for up to an hour. It is heartbreaking.

We tried returning to cosleeping, but she doesn't seem interested in that either. It isn't a teething issue, as we've tried painkillers to see if that would help. She's fine at all other times. Any suggestions or thoughts?

When my DD got mobile and we started to get worried, we put the mattress directly on the floor. It was a temporary solution--once she was really good at getting off the mattress, we were able to put it back on the frame again. Or, you could try a frame that's really low to the ground--Ikea and CB2 have fairly cheapo platform frames.

We didn't need to put any of our babies int he crib because of mobility, and we've had some monkeys! Put one side against the wall, and keep baby between the wall and you.

Could you clear her room of anything that she can't have/do safely on her own and put up a baby gate? Then her whole room would be like a crib.
