My son's penis hurts and he can't make it to the potty.

My son has been potty trained without out any accidents for a month. The last couple days he's randomly complained that his penis hurts. I read that that was normal for uncircumcised boys. What worries me is the day before yesterday we were out of the house and he had to go potty way more than normal. Then yesterday he had trouble making it to the potty every time he had to go after not having an accident for a month. Could it be a bladder infection?

Sounds like a possibility. I would go and get it checked out, just in case. Since he is potty trained, it should be pretty easy to get a urine sample so you don't have to worry about that.

I would think it's one of two things:

1. He's becoming retractile and the places where the skin has detached is a bit raw and sensitive. When my son went through this at two (very early!) he complained of on-and-off pain all day for several days, and would whimper a bit when he peed because it stung. It went away on its own. But sometimes he would hold his pee as long as he could (knowing it would sting) and when he couldn't hold it any longer, he'd pee. That would have looked like incontinence if he was potty trained (he isn't).

2. He has a UTI.

I agree that you should take him in just to rule out a UTI, and it should be easy because he is potty trained.

Also, do NOT let them retract him to see what's going on. They don't need to touch his penis at all to get a urine sample.
