good covers for ultra skinny baby...

Hey all, I have been using the Thirsties Duo Wrap, sz 1 for DD but it is getting too short in the rise (it still overlaps in the width). The sz2 is just gigantic on her though...

I am wondering what a good cover would be for a very long, very skinny baby. We use over prefolds mostly with a few fitteds. I just ordered two Bummis Super Brites in size small because the rise measured longer, but I don't have them yet so I don't know if they will fit or not.

I prefer the pul covers, wool didn't react very well and fleece didn't seen to hold everything in. She's rather explosive when she goes.

So, anyone have any suggestions?

ETA: I really think she needs the leg gussets because her thighs are like twigs...

prowraps work really well on my skinny baby, even when she was twig-thin as a newborn.

I also have bummis super whisper wrap, and it fit her really well, too.

The prowraps have a gusset and the bsww doesn't, but both work with no leaks.

Try Nikkys, they fit my skinny baby nicely. I also really like Imse Vimse--most people say they don't have a long enough rise but they fit my baby really well. She is 18mo, about 20lbs with a really slim build--18-24 trousers fit her for length but they only stay up if she's wearing a cloth diaper. The IV soft cover with snaps is just fabulous and I like the Organic Cottons as well. Both Nikkys and IV have gussets, Nikkys are a trim fit, better over prefolds and IVs are full cut, work well with prefolds and most fitteds.

I like the looks of all those you guys said. I just don't know what size to go with. DD is 29 in, 12.5 lbs. Her waist measures 13.5in, her rise is ~14-14.5in and her little thighs are around 7-7.5 inches. Finding diapers is a PITA for us.... lol. Maybe that's why I have fallen in love with prefolds... they fit any baby shape!

Small IVs, Medium Nikkys. Not sure you'd get much use out of the small Bummis--the medium will be poofy but you can probably make it fit. How old is your DD?

She is 9 mo. I was afraid the Bummis small wouldn't last too long, but I wasn't sure if I could get the medium tight enough around the waist to stay on...

I wouldn't go with the Imse Vimse. As much as I wanted to love them - and for some things I do - they just don't fit well on a super-skinny baby. They do not have an overlap tab, so if they're too big in the waist, they're too big. My little guy is bigger than yours, but still wearing the newborn cover in the waist (tabs meet in the middle) - but the rise is too short for many of his dipes. So I put him in the small, but the waist tabs could stand to overlap quite a bit.

It's great on his thighs - so if you're only worried about leg leakage, it's fine (love those gussets) - but the waist is quite big.

That's what I was afraid of looking at the IV. The newborn thirsties and duo wraps overlap still on the waist as well so I'm pretty sure any size bigger would need to overlap to even come close to fitting...

Does anyone have any good links to WAHM's that might do custom fit covers? Just curious.

I had a similar problem with the imse vimse stuff.

I liked the swaddlebees ABC wraps with my skinny babies, but I used mostly trim-ish fitteds, so I'm not sure they'd have enough space for something that's pretty bulky.

Try Mother Ease Air flow.

The large on the smallest snap just fits my son's 11 inch thighs. He has an 18 inch waist, if that helps. The waist on the MEAFs is a bit loose on him, BUT because of the very large rise and because I usually put him in elastic waist pants, there's pretty much no chance of leakage. Their mediums fit ds's thighs on the middle or last snap just fine.

What I like is that they are longer in rise AND a bit more roomy width wise. So it makes using 'bigger' prefolds easier, fit wise.

I would say stay away from prorap. HUGE thigh openings.

Another option might be Booroi. The medium fits ds nice and tight (thigh and waist) on the second to tightest snap (so not the smallest setting). The rise is nice too. A bit more $$ but nice.

I've also heard good things about GENY covers.

The side snapping diapers fit skinny legs a lot better than the front wrapping ones.

Pull ons are useless. Ds is in a small Bummis pull on and it barely has enough rise to cover his prefold. The legs, however, fit perfectly. The next size up has HUGE leg openings--my wrist would easily fit it!

I never had this problem with DD2 and she is super-skinny! Maybe she just doesn't have a very high rise.

Actually, I have a pull on cover that fits my little guy(21 months, 23lbs) it's a Tiny Tush. The Dappi Nylon pull on's worked well for him too. Bummi's and Proraps gape around the legs on him, the front wings don't go out white far enough. Thirstie's V.1 are okay, but having to do the cross over tab on it makes it a bit bulky for my liking. Motherease left legs marks. I've been meaning to buy a tiny tush wrap to see if it works for him as well as the pull on.

Besides the Tiny Tush, I found some Gerber PUL wraps at a garage sale this summer, 50cents each, and they fit him great, but he's starting to outgrow the rise.

It's not his rise - it's the diaper's rise on his OS dipes, like his Goodmamas - even with the next size up it's not quite covered.

Every baby is so different! I love the IVs because they fit so well over the goodmamas! Large imse vimse soft cover with snaps + goodmama = doesn't get any better for us.

So many people love Fuzzi Buns and Sposoeasy but they always, always leaked on my kids. You'll never know what fits until you try it, really.

My son is skinny and long too. I think he may be a bit chubbier than yours though from your description. But I found Flip covers work really well for him. We had been using grobaby and they fit him strangely, but flip fits really really well.

I actually just bought a Flip and the legs are just a tad big. It fits and doesn't leak unless she has a blow out or is super wet. That is one she shouldn't grow out of I just wish it had the gussets. I'm not a real fan of snaps. I think it's because she rolls and crawls and moves around and aplix is just so much faster. lol. Can you buy just the Flip cover without the inserts? If I put the insert in it makes the legs poof out and it doesn't fit right. If I just use it as a cover over a prefold, it works okay...

Woohoo! Fun. I'm gonna have to run over there and check it out!

Mother-ease Air Flows might work.

What about a regular Thirsties cover? Not a Duo-wrap?

I had really skinny long babies as well and understand how hard it is to find a good fit. It doesn't get easier as they get older, sadly. All my 6 year old son's pants look like Capris (not a good look on him) as I can't find a waist/length combo that works even with all the adjustable waist options out there.

Good luck!

Oh, I know. I have a three year old and a two year old. The 2yo has chunky thighs, but is skinny everywhere else!!! (funny, huh?) and my 3yo is wearing 4S and they are sinched as tight as they go! lol

I just got my Bummis today, washed them and she is wearing one and they fit great! I don't know how long the rise will last but is definately longer than the duo wrap.... so it works for now.

I have tried the small Thirsties and the rise is about the same but they are much wider and are just too bulky...
