Fostering/Canada

Does anyone know if you have to have one SAH parent in order to apply to be a foster parent? My gf and I both work (she's an ECE/DCP at a centre) and I'm an emerg nurse. We have two little girls, ages seven and two.

We're just starting the beginning stages of looking into it, and one of the first things I heard was 'If there's not a parent at home full time, they won't consider you'. I can't find any info either way, so I was wondering if anyone here knew!

Thanks!

I would call the ministry in your area and talk to a social worker about it.

good luck!

You could also post on the message boards at www.fosterparents.com. There are Canadians who post there.

Where are you? I can't speak to everywhere, but in the NWT, and in NB, you can both be WOHP. The system pays for child care, but you may not get to specify which daycare center you want your fosters to be at. I know *certain* kids are only placed in homes with an at home parent, but many children are placed in homes with two working outside of the home parents. Your provincial government website should have a section on/for foster parents. NB's is here: http://www.gnb.ca/0017/index-e.asp
