Running right past February - Page 3

On the jammies, seriously, if any of you need or want jammies, go to Target and look for these. Sounds wierd, but I haven't bought myself jammies in about 10 years. I had a gift pair from dh, which were wonderful, that was 10 years ago (and now they have a permanent fish oil stain), another pair shortly after from IL's that were super great, but the elastic is worn out on the bottoms, and the piping is all wonky on them.

Last year my dad took me shopping to use his discount, and I got a fleece pair of jammies, super wonderful. Then this Christmas Dad gave me super wonderfully soft, and fancy jammies. Love them!!

Okay, back to the ones I bought, called Gilligan and O'Malley, stretch micro. It's 90% polyester and 10% spandex, and 100% comfortable while looking fancy!! Full price $30, which isn't bad but I wouldn't have spent on myself, got them half off.

Okay, goofy post over about my jammies.

Oh, ouch - I hope the clean-up isn't too bad and everything still works once the water dries up. Believe it or not, I have done that twice (yes, two times!!) both times while on a beach vacation in a rental house. I turn on the sink to wash out the sandy suits, jump in the shower and forget to turn off the sink! It's easier than it sounds!

Enjoy those jammies!

Hope under-the-weather dingoes are feeling better fast! Mandy, I know there is a stomach bug making rounds around here. My kids have a cold, but it's quite literally just a nose thing, so I feel lucky. But La, if that's a sinus infection, good luck. No fun. Got a neti pot?

RM, that is a seriously tired and distracted dh. Hope it all dries up without trouble.

Gaye, I feel a little blah myself, but this too shall pass. I think for me, it is hormonal.

I ran into a friend yesterday in the Y locker room. She might also be working out this AM when I go. I'll text her. I'm pleased. I really like this friend, and we never see each other. She's a busy SAHM, and since I started working and moved to the farm, we have had trouble meeting up, so this could be fun.

Mel, I understand the feeling of second-guessing...so much happens in a life that is meaningful and life-changing. This was a good choice. You may not see its benefits for a decade, but they will appear.

Plan is to run today, 3mi, not too hard, and then finish out 45min of workout. That's been key, doing 45min of cardio or more daily. I'm a little sore in the lats from yesterday's weights, so I guess that's good.

mommajb...anyone near me? Especially as fall rolls around I'm gonna need some help!
Me! I am in the greater Cincinnati/Louisville/Indianapolis area. Yes, all three due to the word greater and that I am in the middle of nowhere. My goal was to run 2 marathons this year but I forgot how tired I get as I increase my long runs. My life turns into all about running and recovering and resting. 6 miles this morning kicked my . I am thinking Flying Pig and Columbus if I live. Last year I squeaked by in under 4 and I am not much faster but I should be better trained if I stay healthy.

jo, to most all you posted though I read it as a friend from the Y locker room which made me smile.

Mel, my own advice to me is to worry about today's problems today and tomorrow's might handle themselves before we get there. I hope the schooling works out for the best.

RM, maybe your dh needs some new better-sleep promoting jammies?

to the dingos that need it.

Helen has no excitement to carry her through day 2. The girl she was looking for this morning wasn't there when I dropped her off but an aide took her under her wing. that today is good. I am more worried today than I was yesterday.

I bought a couple of their night shirts and they are so comfortable! They actually can pass for a dress over leggings or jeans.

Today I'll run when DH gets home from work. 3.25 and then some, I hope it is great!

I'm going to take my canopy and go test out a Vibe today.

CFG- yes, it's the Toyota Matrix twin. They are pretty popular and insanely reliable, according to consumer reports. If I can fit everything in it for shows, I think it will be the best car for us. I had checked the fuel economy on the Volvo we were looking at, but I must have been looking at the wrong year or model or something. I was shocked when I checked again and it estimated 19-23mpg! The vibe gets 28-33mpg. Much more reasonable for us. So if we can make it without the extra space, I think it would be worth it.

I wish I could go running this morning and blow off the stress from yesterday. Pft.
Happy Tuesday, Dingoes!

I had really really wanted to go to the gym on Friday but I got to work late and stayed until almost 9 PM and by then it was too late. Then Sat. we got 10-12 inches of snow. My job, sick kids, and gobs of snow are eating me alive. Apparently our region has gotten more snow so far this winter than Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, etc. We are supposed to get some type of winter weather tomorrow, and another big one on Friday - one early report I heard was anywhere from 20 inches to over 3 feet... boggles the mind. If that happens I am going to have to figure out the distance for the living room-kitchen-sunroom loop in my house a la Geo and get my runs in that way.
Wow! Hope everyone is feeling better and the snow stops. We haven't had much snow this year at all and the girls are quite upset. I on the other hand am not.

A friend of mine has a Matrix and I actually drove it for the first time the other day. It is a really nice little car. I drive a big Honda Odyssey so it was really fun to drive a smaller car again. I almost felt young

Bedtime: We put all the kids to bed at the same time. We usually start around 7ish and everyone is in bed by 7:30. Having said that they usually don't fall asleep until much later. In fact lately dd2 has been getting up about 5 times and coming downstairs to say she has something to tell me. Gotta figure out a way to stop that. It is driving me nuts.

RR: So I need some motivation. This morning I had my alarm set for 5:15, woke up and really didn't feel that tired, but instead of getting up and running I just laid there until 6:30. Why didn't I just get up How do you early morning runners motivate yourselves to get out of bed when it nice and warm under the covers?
Hollysmom ~ Maybe you need to put a picture or a quote next to your alarm clock? Or your shoes next to your bed? Good luck getting out there! (I've never been a morning runner).

memiles ~ How exciting!!!

mommjb ~

for all the healing mamas out there. Feel better soon!!

Wow, $600 for an espresso machine. I guess I haven't done my research. Are the cheap Target ones worth it?

V was in bed by 8 last night.. and me by 8:45. That was grand. The 6am wake up wasn't so bad - got both of us dressed, her fed, and we were out the door for groceries (and a latte ).

Have a great Tuesday, Dingos!

Well, we never have seen you both in the same place at the same time!

memiles - Congrats on the tax refund!!! I'm excited about ours coming in, too!

Mandy - I hope you feel better, soon.

Ugh, there were a bunch of other personals that I had, but they have flown out of my canary brain. And, I have to leave in a few minutes to take Abby to preschool. I just signed her up for an afternoon class following her morning class, so she's going to be there all day! She's super excited about it, and I have to admit, I'm looking forward to the time to myself.

I had a killer workout yesterday. Swimming drills in the early afternoon, and then triclass at night. We were doing speed work on the indoor track and the treadmill. It was tough! I'm sore today, and have already been shoveling snow. I am hoping to get out for a run today with my lovely yak trax!

JenLove, my Capresso is not that expensive and we've used it faithfully for 12 years. Dh & I make 2 honey lattes twice each -day. We've broken our carafes once but just use a coffee mug in it's place to catch the coffee. We got it when we were married; it was on our list so it was prob'ly from a mall store like Dillards. I'm sur it was less than $100. We love it so much we've even traveled with it but decided we needed to let that go once kids came along. Dh worked as a barista after college in Boston pre- Starbucks and is quite the expert when it comes to beans, how to make the coffee, & cleaning the machine. I hink he'd like to roast them himself, too. Anyway, I have a friend with one of those $3000 showpieces that takes up the entire counter & while it good, I my little Capresso. :-)

AF's here. My Austin trip had to be rescheduled. I need a break from dh but it looks instead of going to friends, we're going on a road trip together so he can have some meetings & I can veg at my mom's. It's overcast & I'm in a cloudy mood myself. Ahhh well, I'd prob'ly get on my nerves if every day was sunny. I should go write it out. We need our down days, too, right? They serve a purpose, too.

on to my 2nd honey latte now.

All taped up and feeling good! Doctor thinks I'll be good to go on Thursday. He said my hamstring strength is really returning and most of the numbness is gone . Now just to start building mileage again to get myself ready for the Indy Mini. I don't think I'll be running any PRs, but just to run again will be wonderful!

loftmama ~ enjoy that latte, and you're so right about the down days serving a purpose .

bec ~ I'm so envious of your tri class! Our doesn't start until May .

Nemesis ~ happy car shopping! Hope the Vibe suits your needs.

Mel ~ put "Don't Think, Just Run!" on your alarm clock .

Bedtimes ~ DS and DD1 share a room (DD1 doesn't like to sleep alone, and DS has a bunkbed, so it works, for now...) and usually go to bed around 9:00pm. Too late, IMO, but it always ends up around that time. DH is horrible about getting kids to bed on time. DD2 doesn't nap at all, ever, and goes to bed at 8:00 (and wakes up at 8:00). I could use a little more kid-free time in the evenings, but the kids all seem to have inherited DH's late to bed/late to rise gene .

No run this morning, but I want to do at least 30 minutes on the trainer tonight (before Biggest Loser starts ). If only I could bring the trainer into the livingroom .

gaye - i wasn't sure you had applied (and you'd be perfect, IMO) but the first thing i did yesterday is look for your profile pic when they announced the team. meh, they don't know what they're missing! hope today gets much better for you..

No cheapies from Target are not. But we have one that's on the order of 100 bucks (must consult with my dh who is not home about what it is). The 100 dollar one appears to work for my dh.

bleh. Tuesday.

edited to add: Gaye can you provide more detail about what's not working on your cabinet. + sorry yesterday was crummy.

water overflows from the sink: does dh need more sleep? eeek!

Finally subbing, missed the end of January thread

I am crying tears of despair reading about all these early bedtimes!!

We are lucky if we can even start bedtime by 9 PM, and then DD is usually asleep between 10:30-11 !!! And up and bouncing off the walls by 7 AM.

I know it is because she still naps at preschool, and it's hard to imagine a different arrangement, because we don't get home til 5:30 or 6, and I like having time with her in the evenings, but geez I seriously need more adult time too!

But, it comes honestly, DH was totally hyper as a kid, never slept, and I didn't sleep through the nite til I was 5, so payback from our parents
post #54 of 1121
hi everybody, subbing on the 3rd page BUT subbing nonetheless!

sorry for all the leaks, diaper and otherwise! eksmom, you need a break, mama! my cousin lives near you and she says she's been eating constantly bc of all the snow days. yipes.

lofty, thanks for the capresso link! I need a new grinder, bad, and theirs look good. I'd also like an espresso machine but I can't justify it, maybe I'll ask for my b'day.

happy late b'day kerc!!!! can I still have some cake and have a good reason for it!

hello speedy geo! are you thinking Columbus mary?

I have been a lump of unproductivity work-wise the past two days. AF started with a vengeance this morning, and I'm hoping that's it and I can get back to regularly schedule programming soon.

rr: 5.32 miles yesterday in 49 min. while dd was at dance class. tonight I'm leading the running group, so about 2.5, and then tomorrow morning I'll run with rp. I'm trying to figure out when I might get a sorta-long run in, and wondering how long it should be. It's been forever since I've done more than an hour-long run, but I have been pretty consistent. I'm thinking eight miles?

I like that approach to worrying. I might try that on. I'm going to take a little of that too, I need it today.

Mandy - - I hope a little rest does the trick (and maybe some oscill-whatchamacallit homeopathic for flu).

So I did 2.5 miles today in a slow and meditative kind of way instead of going to TKD. It would be Wendy's 4th birthday today. I feel like this whole trip has been tainted with anxiety over being here today so I'm glad that today is finally here and it can be over for another year. That said I'm feeling sadder and sadder as the day progresses . Chiara wants to use her pinata today and since she made it I don't feel like I can say no, but it also seems a waste to do it when she is the only one feeling festive.
Bleh.

Anyway, I had been planning on doing 3.5 but it started getting so wet I really didn't want to end up totally drenched and sick so I quit and did 150 abdominals, 80 push ups and a couple sets of squat kicks. It was kind of funny, when I lay down to do my abs I could see steam rising off of my face.

I got mine at Goodwill and it works fine, especially for $5 or less! I always see them at thrift stores and generally in good condition because so many people get them and then never actually use them.

I'm so not a morning person, but one or two mornings of regret like you described are enough to force me out of bed in the morning. I just know I'll kick myself the rest of the day if I don't do it. I like the idea of having the running shoes next to the bed.

Have I outed myself as a coffee fiend? It's true. I guess I was envisioning one of the countertop coffee genies that have water and beans in them, push a button and... wah-lah! It's totally unnecessary to have all those bells and whistles. I have heard to shop for one with at least 9 or 10 bar of pressure. It's apparently something very important for espresso.

Mommajb, I think you hit the nail on the head with the 'worry about today today and tomorrow later'. I need to stick that one to the bathroom mirror. Thank you!

Plady: break open the pinata. Maybe seeing her having fun will be nice for everybody. Wendy

Being in bed with coffee, Yorkie, and super jammies before anyone else is up for the morning sounds fab! Sorry about the reason for the early waking though. I hope that everything dries out okay!

I'm just getting into the running groove, but I agree that it's hard. I'm only running three days a week right now, two of which are mornings. On Sundays, I run with a group out of the Running Room, so I kinda think of the people that are expecting me to show up. Don't want to let them down. It's harder when you're running solo, IMO.

Bedtime: 3yo is in bed no later than 7:30pm, unless there's some sort of special event. He doesn't nap anymore, and is really tired come about 6:45ish. I try to get him into bed by about 7:15, and usually he's out like a light as soon as I'm done reading stories.

RR: No running for me today. It's a rest day here. I wanted to go out, but I'm trying to stay away from the "too far, too soon" thing. I have my Running Room clinic tomorrow night, 3k doing reps of 5 mins running, 1 walking. I hope I'll be able to keep up. Need to remember to keep my pace slow and easy, both for my knee's sake and so I don't end up having to walk during the running portions.

Okay, so here's the idea. Back when we did the t-shirts with the race list on the back, it occurred to me that we just delete races off the list after someone completes them. I thought it would be fun to keep a running list of what we've completed for the year, with times or goals met if the respective runner wishes. If you don't want your times posted, no prob, we can just post a completion. So if this sounds like fun, I'll post it after the race list each month, and just start over each year.
I'm a little lost as to what's been done this year so far, so if you've already done a 2010 race, let me know - I'll edit this out once it gets going!
