Is there a time lit in which you must spend this money? My basement's pretty well stocked with food, but if I was starting over I'd get a stock of: 25-50#s each of: black beans, pinto beans, lentils, brown basmati rice, long grain brown rice; a couple cases of olive oil & a couple gallons of coconut oil; a case or two each of: WW spaghetti, WW penne, WW fettucini/linguine; several cases of diced tomatoes, a case or two of tomato paste; a case of coconut milk; 2-3# garlic granules, a couple pounds of chili pequine, chili powder & dried red chili flakes, .5-1# each oregano, basil & parsley, 5-10# salt... and a nice selection of other spices. Thats about it. Maybe a case of tortilla chips if I had money left over.

If I had a freezer I'd make sure it was stocked with frozen green beans & snow/sugar snap peas, corn, frozen blueberries/strawberries & meats.

I'd probably stock up on grass fed meats for my freezer (beef, turkey, chicken, pork), and frozen fruit. And pine nuts.

If I didn't have to spend it right now, I'd save most of it till spring/summer and spend it on lots great local fruits and veggies and supplies to preserve them (either freezing or canning) And spend some on bulk staples like flour, oil, sugar, rice and beans.

Yeah to the pine nuts. Is there a world wide shortage right now? Catastrophic crop damage? I've noticed they are hard to find and outrageously expensive right now.

I would definitely stock up on organic grass fed meat.

I'd probably splurge on some higher end ingredients too, though, like really nice extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, vanilla extract, imported spices etc.

I would also buy a few bottles of liqueurs for flavouring - Cointreau or Triple Sec, Amaretto, Frangelico.

1/2 a grassfed cow, 5lbs of tallow, 12lb of grassfed butter, 10lbs almond flour, a bunch of jars of wilderess family naturals mayo, bioaturae tomatoe sauce and paste in glass jars.

Meats (chicken, beef, lamb, seafood) for my freezer, lots of fresh fruits to freeze, 20 lbs leaf lard for rendering, chicken parts so I can make lots of broth to freeze. Maybe good spring grass-fed butter in bulk to freeze, too.

Oh wait... I guess I need to spend the $1000 on a bigger freezer!

I'd probably start by buying a freezer, dehydrator, pressure canner and several cases of canning jars if you don't have all that already. Then I'd buy half a (grass-fed) cow, pig, lamb, some chickens and a couple gallons of coconut oil. If there were any money left, I'd get some 5 gallon buckets (usually can find them free from bakeries) and fill them with 25# bags of beans, grains, whatever other dry goods you use.

For most things, I'm all about spending $5 of the weekly grocery budget to build the pantry slowly, so extra money like that would be spent on the bigger and more expensive things.

I would buy grass fed meats as well. Can I buy canning and gardening things??

I have noticed about the pine nuts! Why are they so high right now?

And vanilla beans.

We are lucky enough to have local farms with CSA programs - I would prepay the 18 week summer veggie/berry CSA, I would also do the grass fed meat CSA - if I had any $ left over I would prepay the farmer for my raw milk

Hmm, if I had to spend it now I would get some grass fed meats, but I have my freezer almost full. So I would stock up on coconut oil and milk, get some kefir grains, buy another couple of milk shares (or more), get starters for cheeses, buy a flour mill and a bunch of organic grains to grind fresh, maybe get a goat share.
