Question on a fermented fruit drink

I applied the instructions for some of NT's fermented beverage recipes to a smoothie I had made last week. It has yogurt, water and fruit in it. I added whey and it's been sitting out about 5 days. It separated (froth from liquid). What should I do with it now? Should I skim off all the froth (that appeared when blending the smoothie in the first place with the yogurt) and only drink the liquid, or should I mix it together?
