Thanks Rachelle. It was just at the WIC office. And they just did a finger prick but it was "off the record" because I asked them to do it. They said they would but there wouldn't be any paperwork to put in my file.
I am always low on iron, especially when I'm pregnant. I can tell because of my symptoms. Mainly because my right thumbnail splits down the middle and my nails get cloudy and paper thin. It's how I've always been able to tell. I used to be able to keep my iron under control by taking over the counter Slow FE but they changed the formula, thus resulting in me taking it for 2 months without knowing it wasn't absorbing into my system. It's taken twice as long to get my iron up again. I do "feel" better but my nails are not any better.
As far as not believing what they say is "normal", I don't trust doctors. I didn't find out about my low iron/borderline anemia until I started seeing a midwife. So I have been suffering with this for a very long time and the doctors never once put me on iron before. My midwives have. And since getting into herbs and vitamins and realizing how much doctors "don't" know and how many vitamins that are out there that DON'T work, I don't know who to trust accept my own research.
But regardless, I really do appreciate your knowledge on this. The lady at the office just blew me off so I couldn't get any information from her. And I just don't have the money or the insurance to have a special iron workup done right now. I just want to make sure my iron is in a good place for the birth of this baby.
