I hope the trial visit works out! I found it my mom's presence to be invaluable after my daughter's birth. She stayed for 3 weeks, and was a lifesaver. She anwered the phone, took messages, cooked, cleaned, took shifts in the middle of the night with the baby, encouraged me to sleep and was great company. We had a different situation; my daughter was born with unique health problems, and so within the first 3 weeks of her life we traveled to see specialists in Jacksonville (3 hours aways) once, and Miami (8 hours away) twice, including surgery. So having my mom to help share the driving and provide emotional support was so so helpful.

My mom is very laid-back though. She is totally supportive and doesn't butt into my life decisions. I can trust her to help without trying to manipulate. Stay strong in your lifestyle choices and she will respect that. I would invite her for at least a week or two, unless she is driving you absolutely crazy. Good luck!
