Is the 2nd baby always bigger than the 1st?

I keep hearing that and it has me freaked out a little bit. While I'm prepared mentally and somewhat physically and my OB doesn't see me having much of a problem even if this little guy is a big one (DS was 9lb 10oz), I'm still a little on edge about it. My OB is guesstimating the weight at 36 weeks in the high 6's, almost 7lbs - a 1/2 a pound a week for 4 weeks could easily put him in the 9lb almost 10lb range!

So, has this come true for you?

Nope, my DD was several ounces smaller than my DS.

Some are, some aren't.

Yes, but my experience was not the norm, as my first bio baby was born at 30wks and second was full term, so of course he was bigger. 5lb bigger.

In all seriousness though, I know a lot of women for whom their second baby was the same size or smaller than their first.

My second DS was 9oz bigger than my first.

My first was 6 lbs 3 oz. My second was 7 lbs 8 oz. So it is true in my case, but most people I know irl have had smaller babies.

Nope, it all depends on the gender of the baby (boys tend to be bigger), the gestational age, mom's overall health status, the function of the placenta and umbilical cord...etc Not to mention that baby's particular genetic makeup (my family runs the gamut of height/weight...my current infant is long and lean, my first was short and chubby as an infant).

My first was 38 weeks, 9lbs 1oz
Second 38+5 weeks, 8lbs 4oz
Third 41 weeks, 9lbs 13oz

Nope... First Girl 36 weeks, 7 lbs....c/s due breech presentation, OB frick out...She definitely was not ready to born
Second Boy 41 weeks, 7 lbs, 3 oz.

They both are very healthy, strong and slim.

I had a friend how carried 6 pounders healthy babies(2 boy and a girl) to term. After born her babies growns like crazy.

I suppose my norm is carry 7 pounders babies and my friend's carry 6 pounders. Although, my friend's children looks now way more bigger than mine's. LOL

This was not the case in my boys. My first was 8 lbs 14 oz and second was 7 lbs 6 oz. So don't worry too much. It could go either way.

Nope, not the case here. My two girls were born 9 years apart. Both weighed exactly the same, were the same length and born at the same gestational age. Only differences were one had blonde hair, the other had black hair and one had one dimple and the other had two dimples. Now five years later I am pregnant with #3. It will be interesting to see what this baby brings.

My 2nd was smaller than my first. My 5th was smaller than my 4th.

and I wouldn't panic that your 2nd was going to be that big. You got your first one out who was about that same size. You can do it!

I'm hoping not DS was 7.1 and over 14 lbs of baby in my belly would have to be horribly uncomfortable.
1,2,4 and 5 were between 6lb 8oz and 7lbs. #2 was 6lb 8oz a full half lb smaller than #1 (7lbs). Baby #3 was 8lb 12oz (ow) and 4 and 5 were both 6lb 12oz.

My first was born at 41 weeks....a boy, 9.6 lbs, 23 inches
Second was born at 40 weeks 3 days....a girl, 7.9 lbs, 20.5 inches
Third.........??????????

There was such a big difference between my kiddos weight, and yet I gained the same amount with both!

And I'm gaining less with this one. Started out not gaining anything the first 4 months and then I had one big month and then a couple of pounds here and there. Unless I gain 12lbs in the next 4 weeks, that'll put me at exactly how much I weighed when I had DS. I really don't see that happening, but hell, you never know!

Nope! It wasn't the case for me. DD1 was 9lbs 1oz and DD2 was 8lbs 11oz. I am guessing this one will be somewhere around 8lbs.

It was true for my MIL though. She had six boys. The first being 7lbs 5oz. They all went up from there. DH was second to youngest and was 10lbs 3oz and the youngest was 10lbs 5 oz.

My first 3 gained more than the last, and then #4 was less. I think #3 was more because she came later than them all.

That being said, I have had all girls, and boys tend to weigh more...so if I am shocked to have a boy this time, I would expect he would be as big or bigger than #4, who was 9lbs12oz.

Birthing #2 is usually much faster and easier, even if they weigh a little more. Fat squishes, after all!

Both of mine came at 39w 3d

DS was 8'7
DD was 8'4

Both of mine came right at 39 weeks. My first was nearly a pound larger than my second. My daughter was 11 lbs, 4 oz and my son was 10 lbs, 6 oz.
Nope, my second was nearly a pound smaller. Didn't do much different, both came right around 40w.

My SIL's #1 was over 10lb and #2 & #3 were both around 8lb.

My #1 was 7lb 8oz and #2 was 9lb 13oz. #2 was so much easier to deliver even being 2lb+ heavier(3hr labor), his head and shoulders were narrower, no ring of fire burning like with #1.
