MT or back carry with wrap?

So.... My son is 8 months now and I can't seem to get anything done with him in a front carry anymore. He is small so it worked so far, but now he is getting bulky and I can barely reach/see around him, plus he grabs for everything. I would like to try a back carry. I have a Moby wrap, a couple of slings, and a couple of SSC's for front & side carry. All these carriers were gifts, but I feel like I have so many, I feel silly for wanting to buy something else. Last night I tried a back carry with the Moby wrap, and I just cant seem to get him up there and coordinate all the wrapping safely. Should I just get a Mei Tai, or keep practicing? Suggestions?

I was taught that back carries w/ a stretchy wrap like a moby are not safe. I would get a mei tai or if you like wraps I'd get a woven one to do back carries.

A mei tai is easier, especially when you want to quickly put your baby on and take off easily--the superman toss is great! I just could never get the wrap to work out well and have all the folds line up. If you have any back pain, I would really recommend the Ergo--wraps and Mei tais put all the weight on your upper back and shoulders, and the Ergo is the only one that puts it on your hips. The only down side is that the baby rides lower and can't see over your shoulders, as he could if you tied him in a high cary with the tai.

You can use one of the slings you already have for a quick back carry. At that age I usually kept baby on m hip and then when I needed to do something like chop veggies I swung that arm in front of baby and scooted them to the rear of that hip.

i'll second the previous poster in saying that a moby wrap is generally not recommended by anyone (other then the company) for a back carry. the amount of give in the fabric makes it hard to get a secure carry while wrapping on the back.

you mention you have a couple of SSCs, what kinds? a lot of people love SSCs for back carries. i'd try that first before buying a mei tai.
