Dyeing newbie here

I'm not sure if this should go in Yarn or Diaper Making.....

I have several wool knit diaper covers and longies that are undyed natural wool. Some were bought used and some are stained from tons of use. All are lanolized and some are felted, if that matters.

After searching for a natural way to remove the stains with no success, I think it might be time to consider dyeing them instead. I'd like to use natural/non-chemical dyes if possible, and of course I'd need to make them colorfast so if they get wet they don't stain the diaper underneath or the bed sheet/pjs.

How should I go about this? Is there a good tutorial online, or are the steps simple enough that someone can outline them here for me? I'm not too fussy about color, as long as it's dark enough to cover the stains, but I'd prefer not to just go black; I'd love some fun (boy/gender neutral) colors!

I don't know much but I have dyed some soakers w/ koolaid. One cherry and one grape. It does fade a little. I forgot to fix the red and it does turn diapers dark pink but washes out. I've never had it leak through to clothes.

Doesn't karma trading post have wool dye?

But for just a few items, I'd stick with Kool-Aid or even food coloring. If you google Kool Aid dyeing, you'll find tutorials on how to do it - it's really easy. You will need to strip the lanolin first though.

Red does have a tendency to not fix properly and when you have a wet diaper sitting in it it bleeds pink onto the diaper, but I've never had it not wash out. It's just not colorfast on cotton, bamboo or hemp.
