Diabetes and newborns

I'm a type II diabetic and I've been reading that oral meds for blood sugar can cause the baby to have a low blood sugar after birth. I was wondering how you monitor for this in a homebirth situation... my blood glucose monitor specifically says not for use in newborns.

Hemocrit levels are higher in newborns, the blood is thicker and could give a false result. BM-test-glycemie 20-800 test strips and Reflotest-hypoglycemie test strips work right for newborns.
