rash behind 20month old ears-what could it be??

my son had, (it recently lightened up), a red/pink rash behind both of his ears. it is not raised, and he does not seem to notice it. i looked it up online and of course, worried for the worst! he is unvaccinated, so bacterial meningitis is my big concern...

anyway, since it did lighten up/fade, what could it be? we havent used any new soap or cream product or anything and we use very natural and ssensitive stuff as it is. he hasnt eaten anything new that i can think of.

i called the doc and have an appointment for tomorrow just in case as he has no other symptoms as of yet.

any help/advice would be great! thank you.

I have always heard that it is a sign of an allergy - dairy usually

I have a dairy intolerance and I get 'hives/rash' behind my ears when I eat dairy.

Also, I have heard that unvaccinated children tend to get more rash/skin issues for some reason (I just heard this and am repeating it with out knowing its validity). My unvaxed child has had more than one unexplained, undiagnosed skin rash... for the record.

My son had a case of dry skin behins his ear in the folds (probably related to spitup gathering there). I was washing and putting lotion on it but he must have scratched it because he ended up with a bacterial infection. Had to go on antibiotics. The reason I took him in was because he was breaking out in little pimples around his ear and even on his face.

So just keep an eye out for that!

I actually had something similar except my rash started to get a little "weepy" which caused crusties

It ended up being a fungal infection. It seems that the moisture/warmth of the fold behind my ear was a great place for it to start. I was making it worse by irrating it and messing with it. I thought it was dirt Cleared up in a few days with a cream but now I make sure I dry behind my ears after showering.

My boys get exema behind the ears once in a while for no apparent reason. I just put some vaseline on it and it clears up in a day or two. I of course have no idea if that's what's on your son's skin, but just thought I'd throw that out there.

that's eczema for us here - also happens at the base of the earlobe.

hmmm...im thinking some type of allergy because it did go away after about 30 minutes. it doesnt feel like anything, like not dry or raised, just red blotchy. weird eh?! these kids worry us like crazy! what a reward they are though!
