birth story: HBAC w/classical incision

I know hardly any of us have classical incisions, but I feel that I can bolster the resolve of others like me who do, because it's so hard to find any info or stories of VBACs with high vertical incisions.

Well, my 9 lb daughter was born at home on Christmas, and my uterus didn't make a single complaint. Here's the story on my blog, if anyone is interested. It was perfect and we are over the moon!

Thanks for sharing! I am planning an HBAC with an inverted t incision so it's great to read some awesome HBAC success stories with alternative scars Congrats!

Thanks! I'll be sure to post it here.

How were your nerves going into it? Did you worry about your scar before labor? Did you think about it during labor? I feel strong and healthy and I'm eating well and I have the support of my husband, doula/friend, and my HB OB but I still think about the scar a bit too much.

AWESOME! Congrats! I'm planning an HBA2C (standard incision) and hearing stories like yours with additional 'challenges' makes me feel more confident and positive. Good for you mama!

Amy - Any mom going into a VBAC is concerned about her scar. I was with my attemped and almost achieved VBAC with DD. I am some this time too now that I've had 2 c-sections. Your body is an amazing thing and you will do great. I believe wholeheartedly in mind over body so do your best to release those fears. Write them down and then throw it away. You CAN do it and you WILL!

Many many congrats! I LOVE how you stated the end of your blog, about her birth being the pioneer birth that buys you permission to have a large family...every birth is a rite of passage for a family but this one was a liberation as well! So so true! Many congrats on this rite of passage!!!

Congrats, Mama!!!! It's just an awesome feeling, isn't it?!

Last year, I had a VBA2C w/ a J incision (HB turned hospital birth at 30 weeks) so I know just how you feel.

Sooooo happy for you!!!!

Thanks! I'm working on it. I used to think that if I had a bikini scar that I would worry less but I know that's really not true. I believe you are right, all VBAC moms think about it at some point regardless of scar type. A lot of my processing is due to first being told I could never VBAC, then to finding a supportive OB, then to have the OB offer to attend me as an HBAC after discussing my preference of HB (he is a HB OB but attends VBAC and breech vaginal in hospital). I have done a complete 180 in that regard so now I am revamping to mentally prepare to HBAC, it's still a new idea, one that I am completely thrilled with but still have some processing to do. Releasing fear is tops on my list and I feel like with each day I become more confident! Good luck with your VBA2C, I will be thinking of you.

To be honest, I think alot of our fear comes from our society feeding us that we are at such a higher risk because of c-sections. We're not! Really and statistically, we have almost the same risk as ANY mom. There are even new studies that show that women who attempt VBAC after 3 or 4 c-sections don't have the insane high risk that they once thought.

Here's another way to think of it... The risk of rupture is what... 1.5% with a classical incision? The leaves 98.5% chance that you WON'T rupture. Look at the bigger number, not the percent they are throwing at you to 'prepare' you for the worst. You have a larger chance for success without rupture than you do at rupturing.

That's how I think of it. My risk went from .6% (1 c-section) to 1.2% (2 -csections). It's still completely and 100% worth it because the percentage of success without rupture is SO much higher. It's not even just a little bit higher, it blows it out of the water. You often hear the negatives of what you want to do... Even with your first baby. If you want a natural birth, you'll get natural birth horror stories. Seek out the positive, surround yourself with positive thoughts, stories and feelings. If they can't be positive, put your hand up and say 'I don't want to hear this. I appreciate that you want to share but unless your story is positive, i don't want to hear it.'. Be assertive and trust your body and your baby. This is what you're made to do... We are women, we are powerful and we are strong. I heard a saying once and I'm probably going to butcher it but I'll try to recall it... It was 'The secret is not that childbirth is painful, it is that women are strong.'. Tell yourself every day that you are strong, your baby is strong, envision your uterus being solid.

PM me off board and I can send you a copy of my pregnancy afirmations (I'm doing hypnobabies). I think it would be helpful for you to regain trust and confidence in your body!

Sorry OP to hijack... Congrats again on your amazing birth!

Thanks! I know the stats, and I really do believe them as well. I'm a numbers person, I have a n accounting degree and numbers are real to me. More real than what any doc has ever told me, with the exception of my current OB but he is not the norm by any means. with an inverted t it's 1.9% and I am more than ok with that. I'm doing Hypnobabies too I haven't started yet, I am jut now 18 weeks. I need to get the fear release cd out though and maybe the VBAC one. This pregnancy is going b fast! Thanks for all your positive thoughts though, we can never have to much!

Congrats. I had tears in my eyes as I read both Clementine's and Annabelle's stories.
