REALLY sore/tender spot on my belly...

There's a spot to the upper right of my belly button... about the size of a lemon... and it's sooo tender... and it hurts to cough.. and it itches... and it's almost numbish? (though painful).

It hurts so bad to cough!!!

I'm thinking it's something relating more to the surface of my belly (stretching skin? stretching/pulled muscles?) because of the proximity to the surface (or at least it feels like that)... so I don't really think it's anything to be super worried about. Oh, and it happens to be the spot where this baby's bum is ALWAYS bumping me!

But gosh.. it's just really making life miserable right now.

I've had similar symptoms - intense burning pain and numbness off and on around my bellybutton and about the size of a lemon, also. It hurt to sit up from a laying position, to cough and even to have my shirt over it. It lasted a few days around two weeks ago (33 weeks pregnant) and now it comes and goes for several hours at a time (but not as intense).

I was worried I had a hernia! However, my OB said it was normal but didn't know why it happens physiologically. It felt to me that my skin was stretching alot so I attributed it to that.

Hope it feels better soon!

That's what I'm thinking... the pain comes and goes (hours on/off... kind of like you mentioned)... I'm not super worried about it.. it's just a PAIN!

And actually, I never really look *super* preggo, but in the last few weeks I've really ballooned out and now have quite a cute belly, imo So I really do think it's stretching related.

You could try a little arnica gel on it. I'm sorry you have that. I am ready to be done with all the assorted aches and pains, myself!

I could have written this post! In fact, yesterday I was going to but didn't get around to it.

I've been having this right by my belly button and also to the right of it (where babe's butt is). It was pretty achey and painful to the touch yesterday, but fortunately it is feeling much better after a night of sleep. I think I just pulled something, which is easy to do these days. I got this pain with ds and dd, but of course I worry about it irrationally each time (I worry about placental abruption)!

So glad it's not just me... even though I KNOW it's not (and I know it's happened in previous pregnancies.. and I KNOW that I *should* slow down some at times.. even dh suggested that)... sometimes misery just loves company.

And today? It's fine. My whole belly region feels just dandy. Crazy pregnancy stuff anyway

I'm not sure if this is what you're meaning, specifically, but I know that when I went to a chiropractor who was used to adjusting for pregnancy, after he adjusted me, he'd always push on a trigger point that was sort of slightly above and to the right of my belly button (one equally on the left, too)? like if my belly was a map, it was maybe a finger's length or less to the north west (and one to the north east )of my belly button? Trigger points can become *very* sensitive and painful, but one of the ways to get rid of them is to sort of push on them until they stop being painful. I've been having some points acting up on my upper inner thighs and boy are those buggers sensitive, but once I work the trigger point they stop hurting for several days... Might be worth looking into.

returning to say... I guess it was the top of the round ligament he was releasing in that trigger point... here's a pic: http://www.austinmidwifeforum.com/im...nt_cutaway.jpg See the round ligament going up just near the belly button? (the big long ligament) is that about where the pain is?

That's fascinating to me! Because, I will sound like a doof for this I'm sure, but I've read talk of round ligament pain for years now (various DDCs, all over MDC, etc...) but seriously, I never took the time to find out at ALL what that meant at all ... how embarrassing

But the way you describe it (finger length to the northwest and whatnot) is exactly where the pain is located.

That all said, why would it only occur (for the most part.. or what I've experienced thus far) on the side the baby is? Just because it's more stretched then? ... (yeah, I guess I have some reading to do now.. especially since I actually somewhat understand what that is! lol)

Yeah, probably baby's stretching that side a little more than the other side? It'll hurt, but try pushing around there and seeing if you can find sort of a little lump. If you take a deep breath and firmly hold the lump (like, push on it) for a minute or so, it should start to release and feel better.

I honestly think this is sort of a different kind of round ligament pain than most women experience earlier on (which is more of a tugging pinching sensation lower on the belly, I think), but it sounds like you might want to look into information on the "webster technique" (the chiropractic technique for pregnant women) because where I was reading it was talking about the ligament trigger points. Definitely doesn't feel good *while* you're releasing it, but SO much better after...
