Humans are so removed from their natural instincts about eating. How can there be any hope for us?

Rules, rules, rules. Nutrition gurus, nutrition gurus, and more nutrition gurus. Theres gf/cf, raw, vegan, tf, grain free, enzyme therapy, healing leaky gut, detoxing, fasting, ayurveda, and I'm sure a ton more that I don't know about. Those of us who have taken the time and energy to find out as much as we can about nutrition over these last couple of years have been inundated w/info, a lot of it that makes sense, but also a lot of it contradictory. Eating meat that has been pasture-raised instead of from an animal that couln't even stand up on its own, that seems like a no-brainer (if you are an omnivore, that is). Not eating food that has been sprayed w/dangerous chemicals, that is also a no brainer. But beyond that, there is so much more theory about why we in the modern world have made ourselves chronically sick and how we can heal from it. It's just way too much mental gymnastics to navigate through this sea of information to find what is right for you and your family, personally. Sometimes, if I sit down and think about it, I want to take my head off and shake out all the info inside that I've collected about nutrition. I wish I knew nothing.
Then I see this nature documentary on TV. The wild animals know what they need to eat by instinct. It's all right there in their environment (if it hasn't been tampered with by humans, that is). It's fresh, totally unprocessed, probably full of nutrients, and what their bodies have been evolutionarily evolved to eat. We humans were once in that state too. But no one is in that state anymore. Even if you life way out in the country, and as off the grid as possible, you are still a modern human, who has to think their way to nourishing themselves. Most of use lack that instinct and therefore search for rules and guidance to surviving and thriving.
Today, after reading a blog post, another talking head spewing off what's good, what's bad for you body, and then everyone arguing about it in the comments section, I told myself, I can't listen to anymore rules. I have to start using my instincts, even if they start out way off. I mean I know I'm not totally ignorant, I know what my body clearly does not need, what is total processed crap. Life is too short. Eating should be a pleasure, and one should be kind to one's body. Beyond that, I'm should not listening anymore.

Very true. I eat what makes me feel good inside. I really don't care about what expert says what.

So true, nothing is wrong with watching what you eat. However its ridiculous when one day you hear that white bread is good for you and the next time brown bread is healthier and another time again white bread is better. I am wondering when those Scientists will come back say "my bad white bread is actually good for you"

OP- Have you read any of Michael Pollan's books? He talks about this topic a lot in In Defense of Food and also in Omnivore's Dilemna. The movie Food Inc also really talks about this (and Michael Pollan is in that movie). If you haven't read those books or seen the movie, you should! Michael Pollan sums up his philosophy this way "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants". By food he means real food that your greatgrandmother would recognize. He is much more eloquent than me so I say read his books if you're interested in this topic. He has changed the way I eat.
