Can we brag a little?

So, I'm having a pretty good day and I want to share it with everyone. Please feel free to add your "tiny brag" too

Two second reminder: Miss Kat is severe-profoundly Deaf. ASL is her first language but she got a cochlear implant last year and is now learning spoken language.

Miss Kat got 100% on her spelling test!!! She listened to the words her teacher said, heard them clearly, and wrote them down, spelled correctly!!! That means she hears, understands, processes, and then can phonetically sound the words out.

SHE IS DEAF!!!!!! How amazing!!

that's awesome!!! Way to go!

So today at school Linden and I were in the hallway talking with a lady. He kept telling me he wanted to see what was at the end of the hallway. He's been on oxygen since he could walk and so we've always been literally tethered together. Either he's in his wheelchair or I'm following along behind him with a tank and dolly. So when he says he wants to go somewhere, that has always meant I'm right there with him. So we were talking to the lady and I really wanted to finish hearing what she was saying so I hooked him up to a small tank (wine bottle sized, still pretty heavy for a weak 3 year old) and stuck it in the back pack and handed it to him and said "here you go, go down the hall if you want to." I mainly did it to keep him occupied, but I also wanted to see what he'd do. At first he was very hesitant. Then kinda confused. Then he slung one strap over his arm and drug that tank right along.

So for the very first time ever I got to see my kid walk down a hall by himself. No one following him, not dependent on anyone. He stopped and talked to a couple of people and made it all the way down the hall, which is in and of itself a huge thing for him because he gets very tired, especially lugging a tank along.

It was really hard not to just bust out in tears. My baby walked down a hall all by himself. It might sound really dumb, but it was huge, like seeing your kid walk for the first time. And it just meant a whole lot to me.

It doesn't sound dumb at all!! It's a huge step towards independence, which is big for any kid, particularly Linden who has so much necessary dependence!

My "brag" is actually a funny...Connor has really been babbling a LOT lately, but 90+% of it is unintelligible. He was babbling something at me, and I just couldn't figure out what he was saying. So I said "Please use your signs...show me the sign". He did the sign for...SIGN! I did tell him to 'show me the sign'! Then I said "show me the sign for what you want" and he signed 'want'. I could see this going around and around for a long time, so I then said "WHAT do you want" and he finally told me using his signs (I think he was telling me that brother took a toy or something). This literal stage is a hoot!!

I love brag threads

Well, DD has had a pretty bad diaper rash lately (all mommy's fault, I'm afraid...I should know better than to try something new!). The other night it was at its worst and she had pooped, so we needed to change her quickly. As soon as she saw the diapers and wipes, she started crying (poor girl!). As we tried to encourage her to lay down, she looked right at DH and signed/said "scared! hurt!" We FREAKED out!!! That she looked at us and communicated at all is wonderful, but the fact that she understood her emotions and could tell us how she felt was a huge deal. Still on cloud 9 about that
