Yet another spelling variation/pronunciation thread

If we have a girl we are thinking of the name Teya (Taya). Do you think Teya would be pronounced Tay-a? What are other spelling variations? Taya, Tayah, Teya, Teyah, Tea.......I like Tea but I think that she would be called Tee (like a cup of tea) not Tay-a......help me please.

I would do Tea with an apostrophe over the e. I don't know how to type that though. That is what Tea Leoni does. It emphasizes the e and shows people that it is not Tea as in tea you drink

Taya looks like tai-ya to me. Teya looks like tay-uh but it does not look as classy as Tea with the e accent mark.

I would not do Tea, with or without an accent. Tea Leoni may do it, but she's a celebrity and has the advantage of people purposely trying to pronounce her name correctly. Little ones and average adults won't get that...they'll get hassle. And honestly, without the reference point of "Leoni," I would have looked at her name and said "Tee."

I think Teya is the best, followed by Taya (but it's a pretty distant second). Teya reminds me of a legit name and spelling, whereas the rest look a little made up to me. Perhaps it's because Teya and Freya are so similar?

Definitely Teya.

i read it as tay-a. i've never seen it spelled that way, only this way: tehya.

I think you'd need to spell it "Taya" if you wanted hope of correct pronunciation. Even then I think you'd get a lot of "Tie-ah".

Teya ~ I pronounced Tay-ah. To me it is pretty obvious, but people will always misprounounce even the easiest names. My 2dd is Naomi and I cannot tell you how many people say Nie-omi~ even after I introduce her name clearly and correctly :eyeroll. Really, it is pronounced EXACTLY the way it is written~ ...

Teya is a pretty name Mama, if it seems like it's her's~ go for it .

I know a little girl named Te'a, which everyone pronounces correctly but which can be annoying when filling out forms and such.

I like the name. I think no matter how you spell it you're going to have some people say it wrong, but that's not really such a big deal if you love the name.

You're in Canada where everyone learns French in school. I can't imagine it'll be pronounced incorrectly.

I say just go with Tea if you like it. I don't believe it's necessary to stoop to coming up with odd phonetic spellings for names just to try to please the average masses. Nothing wrong with teaching people the right way to pronounce an unfamiliar word or name.

You inspired me out of being a "creepy lurker"! My daughter is Reya.. (Ray-a) and no matter how you spell it, people will mispronounce her name! LOL

I love love love Teya, but I also really like Tehya.

Also, I just looked up the name and it is spelt without the accent (Tea) and the prounciation is as you want it (TAY-ah)

I read it and thought Teya would be said "Tey-a" (like you want) "Te-ya" (short e, more ya sound) or "They-a". (more on the a sound) Honestly Tea-a (with the long e) never crossed my mind. It is a lovely name. Go for it!

If you are super worried, you could give her the traditional name (Teresa?) and just call her Teya.
