Grainfree Nursing Mama Question

We've been grain free for about 3 weeks and feel pretty good, but I feel like my supply might be dropping. I don't know if it's related to the lack of grains or because I feel like my cycle may be returning (first zit on chin since I got pregnant. Hello, old friend ).

Did anyone experience a drop in supply with lack of grains or am I imagining this?

Thanks

Well, if your period is returning that certainly causes a drop in supply for lots(does for me). I haven't had a supply problem, unless I am just not eating enough or going super low carb-just had a dip- but hadn't ate enough the past week due to being in the hospital and craziness. It shouldn't be a problem unless you cut out tons of calories w/ grains and didn't replace them w/ anything else. I would just eat more of other carbs.

I've been grain, bean, potato and dairy free (and fairly low carb--50-100 grams a day) since DD was 3 weeks old. In the 7 months I haven't seen any supply issues but I also have to be sure I get enough to eat every day. I eat such a high percentage of fat that it's easy to feel satisfied and forget I need more calories.

My guess would be AF is returning but also it might be worth tracking what you're eating to ensure you are getting enough calories.

just got af at 14 months, and zits... nina planck writes that she doesnt believe oats are at all better then a nice big steak in boosting milk production, its just that grains have historically been eaten because they are a cheap source of needed calories.

I've been grain/bean/sugar free since Thanksgiving, DS was 19 mo at that point. No problem with supply, but I make sure and eat a crapton of food, LOL! Loads of veggies and a nice big hunk of protein.

I may be the odd one, but yes. I cannot go low-carb without my supply dropping, it doesn't matter where I am in my cycle or how much other food I'm eating.

But you don't have to be lc to be grainfree, which is what I understood the question to be. things like potatoes and bananas have tons of carbs.
