This was done to my DD. It is a MAJOR reason why, barring pressing medical problems, I will not be birthing in a hospital again.

My advice would be watch the baby like a hawk. If you are truly alone in there, you will have no choice but to allow baby to be in the nursery for brief periods, so let that baby nurse every second that you can when you are in room together. Don't listen to the ignorant nurses who tell you about every 2 - 3 hours! Nurse constantly at first if possible!

Your nipples will toughen up within a few weeks- I truly had to power through the pain for 2 - 3 weeks, then we were fine.

why would I have no choice but to allow the baby to be in the nursery for breif periods? The only reason I would be occupied would be if I was using the bathroom which only takes a minute or two or to take a shower. And I was just planning on rolling the babys cart right up to the door and leaving the door open so I can peek out every so often. I dont plan on taking half hour long showers... just like 5 min. I think I can make it work where I wont have to use the nursery...unless Im missing something.

This was not my experience. We wound up stuck in the hospital for more than 48hrs after dd's birth. DD was born @1:31 in the morning and DH was with me until about 1pm the next day when he had to leave to go take care of something for his business. He didn't come back until the next day around noon to pick us up and take us home. So except for 2 visitors who stayed less than 30 min each I was alone w/dd that whole time. She never went to the nursery and no one suggested she should.
