Mmm..corn! Or not...

I have been learning some interesting facts lately about corn and health. Cornsyrup has been linked to diabetes, I am sure some of us have heard. But did you know that corn is also high on the allergy foods list? It is also very low on the nutrition scale. Corn is a staple in some diets, our foods are rife with cornsyrup, and the meat we eat is generally fed a high-corn diet. Research shows that grain-fed beef is fattier, and has less nutritional value that grass-fed beef. Has anyone else read up on corn? I would like more input, from more sources! Thanks!

You should read The Omnivore's Dilemma. It's got tons of great facts about all the food you ate, but especially corn.

We avoid HFCS, we eat only grass fed meats and most of the corn we eat is fresh. We do eat some canned corn, but that's pretty rare and only in the dead of winter when we can't get fresh.

There's a documentary called 'King of Corn', it's pretty interesting. =)

Corn and soy are 2 of the things I try to be really neurotic about getting organic.

I also watched King Corn and it was really enlightening. www.marksdailyapple.com is also really good!

It's one of the top 4 food intolerances. It's subsidized by the government, which is why it's cheap, and in everything. It hides all over the place under different names (citric acid, dextrose, maltodextrin). It is in dog food. It is in animal feed. It's everywhere.

Read www.dogtorj.net. He says corn is one of the 4 horsemen of the acopalypse. Very interesting reading. GMO or not, I don't think it's much good for anyone (though I still miss corn).

thanks for info!

Hey, thank you! I always value others' opinions, and thanks for the links, also! The more I research the food we eat, the more it kind of makes me sick. Some of the stuff they put in or on our food! Makes me want to grow all my own stuff. I try top garden as organically as possible, but that is difficult when you have a treated soybean field next door
I am also just getting into making my own soaps, oils, and shampoos. I found a very interesting website that tells you all about the chemicals in just about anything you put on! It even rates the chemical's toxicity.

Tell me what you think!
