Severe pits and ridges in fingernails?

I all of a sudden developed pits and ridges in my fingernails. They have been getting more severe for the past month. Also, my nails are soft, bendy, and break easily. The pits are only showing up on my middle and ring fingers so far. They are not discolored.

This is especially worrisome because I am 34 weeks pregnant.

I started taking calcuim supplements, and I take prenatals every day, and I take a chlorophyll supplement that my midwife gave me, and I make a huge smoothie every day with lots of fruit, spinach, carrots, etc...

My midwife, and an OB I saw when I had a pre-term labor scare both had no idea.

Any ideas?

I had the same thing, well, pits not the ridges. My nails were very strong during my pregnancy but became very weak after I had dd. I also noticed the pits while I was about 25 weeks pregnant. I had pits on my ring finger and pinky nails. I searched everywhere but couldn't find any info on it. DD is 19 months old and I still have them slightly but have gotten better. My nails are finally starting to grow too. I'm sure it's some sort of mineral deficiency...not to scare you

I don't know about pits, but I have pretty serious ridges (including ones that almost split) running the length of my nails from iron deficiency. It seems to be getting better as I slowly build up my ferritin levels, but is still pretty marked, especially on my left (non-dominant) hand. Definitely worth having a test run.

Hmm, I guess I forgot to mention that the ridges run side-to-side, not up and down. It looks the most like the pictures of psoriasis... but not quite.

I read these awhile ago too but didn't really find anything on pits unless I missed it. My ND wasn't even sure about what the pits meant which is unusual to me

Have you had a hard hit to your system. The reason I ask is when my dd had Kawasaki she got ridges across her nails all of them and her toe nails. My homeopath said it was from the hit her system took. Some have since grown out but if you rub your fingers over her finger you can feel them.
