May Mamas Chat thread <3<3 - Page 3

Thanks for all the birthday wishes mamas! We had a wonderful day and yesterday we got Della's new carseat (safety 1st air something something). She loves it and is so much more mellow in it. We then went to the New England Aquarium which I should have known would be swamped. It was absolutely chaos and there were tons of babies which Della actually loved. She just loves other kids and babies, wants to play with them and just look at them...
We didn't even bring out stroller in which I am thankful because of the crowds, I just carried her around in my ring sling all afternoon and traded with daddy when I got tired. She did great at first but after about 2 hours she had had enough and we left. It was a lot of fun just to see her face looking at things like the jellyfish though. I guess we'll have to wait another time for the stroller to get used. I think we have used it maybe twice since she was born So much for that piece of must have baby gear.

JPI I know just how you feel about play groups. I want to do one with della but I just don't know many mamas around here....We are moving back to Maine in the summer though so depending on where you are located we can always get together if you'd like! PM me if you want to talk about it more!

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend I am going to baking for our big super bowl party that we are hosting while Grandma is kind enough to watch Della for a few hours so we can have some grown up time with our friends (although they all love her and are great with her!)

Oh on the weight thing, I got a Wii and a Wii Fit for Christmas and I have lost 10 pounds working out with that thing. It is amazing and DH loves it too!

ldavis - if you really want to get the most of your wii fit get the ae workouts, I'm approaching the end of the 30 day challenge and I've lost 18 lbs.

Makes me sad our Wii is broken.
Ah well.
I've been trying to get/make the time to fit in my Bottoms Up! workout but haven't yet. I've just been controlling my portion sizes and giving myself 10 minutes between firsts and seconds to decide if I *really* want a second helping. I've lost 5 lbs. In the process of trying to get the family to quit soda too, which should help considerably.

Holy smokes there is sooo much snow. I am so sore from shoveling! We live on a private road and the plowing company (that we pay) did not do their job so the neighbors and I dug ourselves out. I think DH has to work tomorrow. I think we got 30" in our yard, the airport near us totaled 32". Pretty sure it broke all the records around here!

Anyway, DS (4) hung out with one set of neighbors yesterday and another today. He just chilled with them and enjoyed all their attention instead of having to be around baby sis. He is definitely going through jealousy. We spend one on one time with him everyday but the constant attention DD gets makes him want to have much more attention.

I have been thinking more and more that more kids are not in our future. I feel like my hands are full with these two and that I can barely give them the attention they need/want. For those of you with more than 2, how do you do it? I might have felt differently if DD had been sleeping great this whole time (DS was a great sleeper!)

Playdates- we have playdates for DS and many of those parents have other kids so DD is entertained. DS also has activities (swimming and tae kwon do) so she can watch a bunch of kids. She is also at day care 2 days a week. But, I remember with DS feeling that he needed to play and see other kids, he got bored of us. We used to go for walks in the neighborhood and talk to all the neighbors for stuff to do, or I would have gone crazy.

Teething-it never ends! DD is working on tooth #7, I have no idea which one is coming in because she won't let me look in her mouth. She is chomping on everything, including tables, chins, noses. Drool is everywhere.

PPAF- I still have not gotten it, though I feel rumblings in my ovaries. with DS it came at 21 months PP.

Workouts-I manage to run about once a month after which I usually get sick because my immune system is taxed from getting no sleep. Shoveling provided plenty of workout this weekend!

j_p_i- I know! So close yet so far away, huh? I was going to mention checking out the local LLL (la leche league) in your area. I met a lot of my friends that way. And at local library story time. I find that a LOT of moms in this area are crunchy. Who would have known? hehe.

I forgot to mention that I have not had a PPAF yet. I was expecting it because I got it back at 8 months with ds1. I feel like its coming anyday.

We have an EA Active and my DH has just recently started using it in the evenings. I might try it again. I didnt' like it at first. I think its not fast oaced enough for me. But I will give it another shot. Thats great Oceans, that you have lost so much weight using it! Good job!

Punchy- I feel ya on the more kids thing. There is such a pull in me, though, to have one more. My DH is so adamant 99% of the time that we are meant for only 2. (sigh)

ldavis- we went to target yesterday and saw that new AIR seat. It looks pretty high tech!! If you don't mind me asking. how much was it? They didn't have a price on it. We were looking at boosters for DS. I can't even believe its almost time for him to go into a booster. He is about to outgrow his convertible by height soon and since he will be 4 and 40# we are going to move him. I know I could harness him longer but we need one of the seats to be easily movable in our car because my DH has to haul long packages in it and right now we take the infant seat in and out. Anyway......

My laptop isn't working right now so I am internetless. Just using my DH's in his shop while he is out. I am going to get so much more done without the internet calling to me all day!

ldavis - I'll pm you

oceans - wow, 18lbs is great! I love ea active and have lost about 7 lbs I think.

lotus - try to use the ea active on the "hard" setting, it's much more of a workout that way. I noticed a big difference between medium and hard. I will try to see if there are any LLL meetings in this area... and really I'm not that far from portland, I'm sure there are things going on there.

Olivia has one tooth poking through (just barely, it's tooth #3) and I can see #4 right below the surface. No wonder she has been sleeping poorly! Just tossing and turning all night. I'm exhausted today, glad I got a lot of housework done yesterday!

Hi Mamas...

It's been a loooong time...

Wow even a pregnant mom already. Congrats Kelly!

Penny such a goofy baby. She just started to smack her lips. So cute! She loves clapping her hands too. Been playing peekaboo with a washcloth for quite a while too.

She crawls all around the place since before Christmas. She is still doing the commando crawl at home (so fast too), but whenever we go somewhere carpeted now she crawls on hands and knees. I think she just prefers to be on her belly when she is on our hardwood. Starting to pull herself up too.

She eats quite a bit of solids too. Not too worried about early weaning since DD1 was even more into food, yet she is still nursing.

I was exercising with EA active until October, but then DH started some pretty major home renos and as a result I have no time left for that. I am looking forward to start again. Although I was not seeing weight loss, my body was feeling much better.

Lotus-
the Safety 1st air seat was 189.99 at babies r us, however now until feb 20th they are doing this thing where you trade in an old car seat, stroller play pen, whatever of any brand and they give you a coupon you can only use that day for 25% off certain brand items of things like car seats. So I brought in Della's bucket seat and used the coupon for the Safety 1st Air convertible seat. So with the discount it was around 150 roughly, plus tax. I know it wasn't super expensive compared to some of the britax models but from all the reading I have done about it and even asking here on the safety threads it was a highly rated one. It was a challenge to install because we don't have the latch but it goes up to 40lbs rear-facing and then 50 forward.
DD absolutely loves it, we drove to boston and back the same day we got it and she didn't make a peep once. Definitely not a seat to take out and just switch vehicles with though. Ok so now that I am done advertising for safety 1st, I will just say that I really like it and safety wise it is highly rated!

lotus - I get annoyed cause our remotes/nunchucks have been through a lot and not as sensitive as they probably should be (one of them rattles ) But I agree with jpi that the hard setting is the best. It makes me angry tho DH is doing it on easy and having about the same weight loss as me and I am doing it on hard + using the normal fit to run at least 30 min most days + doing around 20 min of strength and yoga most days. How is that fair?

auraji - I love that video and I know all too well that look at the end like she's saying "put that thing down and hold me already!"
What a sweetie Sophia is! She will be walking in no time!

Lauren - I saw the babies r us deal going on now, I'm really bummed that Sunshine Kids isn't participating. I'm researching new seats for Laine and I think I'm going to end up getting her the STXL but I'm not sure yet. She's tall and skinny so I think we'll get the most use out of that before switching to a Nautilus down the road like DS is in right now. That kid is a nightmare with carseats because of how big he is. I bought two Britax seats when they were on sale a while ago, they are okay seats but not all they're cracked up to be compared to all the new seats out now. She really needs a seat with more narrow straps. Everyone is talking about diapers.com doing deals on carseats so I will probably check that.

Yes OceansEve, it was a mix of hold me while I hold/eat that thing haha

Katie, Im scared of her walking. I dont know if Im ready haha, she moves around so much. She yesterday tried for the first time to go up the stairs. I left her with DP while I cleaned the bathroom. She never cared for them before, but I guess she was in the search for her mama! She went up two steps and did it again today. Our house is 0 babyproofed, I just am quick in relocating her. I guess it makes for good exercise, but I should probably make a few things safer before she starts walking.

I got this one for DD on Amazon. I got the color on sale. It has really good ratings and it was great to pay only 143$ for it. We havent tried it out yet, but it had great reviews everywhere I read.

I wish we would have taken a video of it, but in the very first house we lived in in NC DS figured out the stairs right around 12 months, and he would FLY down the stairs on his belly feet first. It became a game of who could get down the stairs fastest and he almost always won. We've been babyproofed for so long that I forgot what it was like to not be.

Love the True Fit! My kids use those when we visit my IL's. The first install is a learning experience but once you do it the first time it's really easy to do every time after. The only hang-up I have is that you can't tighten the straps while the baby is sitting in it but otherwise it's an excellent seat with a lot of really good features.
Wow. I never really worried about our car seat. It's the same one we used for DS 2 years ago. It's a baby trend. She's almost out grown it anyways. It's only rated up to 22 lbs and she's already 20 lbs.

We had to move our gate at the bottom of the stairs lower. DD figured out how to climb up the one step the gate is located on. If we don't close it, she's so fast to it and all the way up the stairs she goes. It's the same with the bathroom. She's fascinated with the toliet. She really wants to play in the water. We have to keep the door closed all the time.

I love the idea of the workouts Wii-style, but Wii is so expensive. How expensive is the EA Active? We have no video game systems at all.

PPAF - No sign yet. It came at about the 9 month mark with DS. But, that's about when he night weaned. I'm trying to night wean DD. Some nights it works, some nights it doesn't. DS was much easier. After 4 nights, he quit waking up.

I think a wii runs 200 right now. fit - 100. workout 55. The way I justified it is It's cheaper than getting a gym membership
post #56 of 278
Yes and you have to have a wii to use the ea active. I do like it better than the wii fit, though I am glad to have both because I weigh myself on the fit. I justify spending the money on the in-home workout stuff because I feel like it's the only way I can work out! The closest gym is a tiny curves and it's a couple towns away. I do get out and walk 1-2x a day with the dog and baby in the kelty, but if I didn't do something structured like the ea active I wouldn't lose weight.

I did lose another two pounds the last couple days!

Olivia has been napping on her own all week! She actually seems to sleep better that way... she has been terribly restless at night recently. She has a third tooth starting to poke through and I can see the fourth just below the gums...

Have I written this before?? Oh, mommy-brain! I just checked, I did type out nearly the same exact sentence in an earlier post. I guess I don't have much to update other than she continues to nap on her own!

I'm not sure what to do about her restlessness at night though. I keep hoping for a good night but it just doesn't seem to be happening. DH has been sick too, so his tossing and turning doesn't really help! Perhaps this is just a little sleep regression (she does like to try to nurse more at night than she had been) and there is a little light at the end of the tunnel?

Hmm. We have a Wii; I should check out the Wii Fit. So far, BF'ing has taken off all my baby weight +10 lbs., but I'd like to get in better shape.

We got a True Fit convertible seat and really like it! I was really lucky-I got one as a Cyber Monday special in Nov., and found some online coupons, and ended up paying $80 total for it including shipping. I was super excited about that. We were planning on getting it from Amazon too, but we ended up getting it from Toys R Us. We've been very happy with it, once we figured out how to install it (not tough once you've done it once--good design).

JPI - how does Olivia nap on her own? Please share some tips....do you just plonk her in her crib or bed and she goes to sleep or is there a prep involved? I would love it if my DD could sleep on her own.

She has no teeth whatsoever still....

Again about her poops...Oie....she had a half a banana again yesterday and sure enough...nicely semi-solid poop but another thing I notice is that they are greenish black. Does it mean she is allergic to the banana? Those of you who mentioned solid poops with banana - were they yellowish or blackish/greenish?

Sophia's poop has been sometimes semi solid too and sometimes blackish/greenish. I didnt think it was a sign of allergy, just that solids were changing her poop. It varies a lot depending on what she eats, I thought that was normal
post #60 of 278
It's normal, they have kind of an in-between stage before they get "real" solids poops once they're eating more and balancing out the breastmilk.
