Chapped cheeks...

Ok..so probably not the cheeks you're thinking of. DD is 7 weeks old and has developed painfully dry skin on her labia and butt cheeks...just near the crack. (sorry if this is tmi!) Here are my thoughts....what suggestions do you moms have for me?

We use a mix of cloth and disposable. Mostly cloth. I have introduced new detergent about a week or so ago. Also got new disposable wipes a week or so ago.

She had a bit of a red rash after using Target brand disposables for 2 pees in a row. Hadn't used the Target's in a while...I'm sure they caused the rash. Then last night she slept in a goodmama that I'd bought used. I washed the dipe as usual with very little of my detergent, but noticed that it still smelled like the other momma's detergent. She peed in it during her sleep...very wet when I changed her. I was letting her dry from that changing (wiped with cloth wipes...air drying her bum). I put on a new cloth dipe (our old prefolds) and she started crying pretty hard. Did some checking and found the chapped cheeks.

Also..I use a mix of disposable wipes and cloth wipes. I made my own wipe solution and that could be the cause as well. 2 weeks ago, I filled a postpartem peri-wash bottle with water and added about 5 drops of tea tree oil and 5 drops of lavendar essential oil. Used it a few times and thought it smelled pretty strong, like I'd put too much oil. So I dumped 1/2 out and filled the rest up with water. This sat for about 2 weeks...could the oils have gone rancid and burned her?!

What do you think?

We spent the day to day without diapers. Rinsing her bottom in water only and coating the chapped parts with olive oil.

Thanks ladies!

PS - gotta have a dipey for church tonight. Will the olive oil hurt my prefolds?

No the olive iole has never affected my pfs before. My DD has the chapped bum & I found the only thing that helped was Aveno cream in the tub w/the blue lid. Put a thick layer on rub in. I also use this w/pf w/no prob. Id only use h2o on her bum as well.
